Apparently our compasses will point true north instead of the magnetic north shortly..

This reasures me..

Ah ha! I’ve found it; Magnetic North is shifting each year (some 30 miles per year in fact according to some sources!).

The two North’s will ostensibly soon be in alignment

Yes, magnetic north moves constantly. And it varies as to what part of the country you are in. At the moment Magnetic North in Cornwall is west of grid north but in most of the rest of the country it’s east of grid north.
