So my car battery was flat this morning ...

Hazard lights blinking. Had I nudged the switch being out of the car last night?

Had someone bumped my car and the alarm gone off?

RAC quickly ( ) came out and hooked up a computer ... "dodgy battery mate" they said "you need a new one" "It'll fail again in a cold snap"

Yeah right!

Refused to spend £130 and just got it jump started

Still felt the need to just pop out and turn the engine over again though

I would say the battery was on it's last legs and when the power dropped low it upset the alarm systems settings.

£130 is a lot if it's a normal battery but if your car has start/stop technology for when you pull up at traffic lights etc that's probably about right.

Tip

Always park your car on a downward facing slope

Not much use if you live in holland

They are usually correct. They have no vested interest in you buying new battery

What do the RAC have to gain from recommending you buy a new battery?

Nah the battery is new-ish (less than two years) and there's no amp leakage on it ...

On the checks it was on the green scale on his laptop

It was just the feeling got to go out and turn it over to be on the safe side

The car isn't full of new fangled electro gizmos either

"What other things make you feel paranoid? "

Nothing makes me feel paranoid, it's a huge waste of energy being suspicious of everyone's motives.

If I mistrust there's usually good reason.

I'm pretty sure they do have an interest in him buying one, as they carry a few on the van, and if they don't have the right type they go, buy one, fit it, and charge you.

I take everything breakdown guys say with a big pinch of salt, had my car plugged in when it had no power one day, he said the car would cost more to fix than what it was worth, main computer gone?? It turned out to be the fuse on the battery that cost less than a tenner.

Bliley! Do they? I didn't know that. If you genuinely need a battery that's handy but if you don't...

If your battery is near flat, giving it the benefit of a good run would surely help. And I'd always shop around for the best value .

Unless there's an alternative diagnosis, all seems right
