Car dash cams.

Do they encourage bad driving? I’ve been watching a few ( not the Russian ones ) and a fair few accidents seem wholly unavoidable. Take for instance someone joining from a slip road. Dash cam driver who has right of way on main carriageway doesn’t slow down or pull out. I know he doesn’t have to, he has right of way, but to avoid an accident why not adjust speed or position? Does the possession of a dash cam think he has a complete proof of fault in an insurance claim? Discuss.

Maybe a vehicle in next lane to him preventing from pulling out? Not many people want to crash cars surely, except for the cash from crash brigade

No but they do invade my right to privacy as my car is an extension of my home

there is an advantage having dashcams in cars or vans or wagons

the brake checkers caused that side, it voids brake checkers insurance immediately if involved in a crash.

if involved in a bump you can use dash cam evidence for your insurance or for police to see whos at fault.

have you found the bus crash one yet or the wagons that get brake checked

Not sure how this example proves your point. The driver on the man carriage way did absolutely nothing wrong. It is the driver joining the carriage way who is responsible for adjusting speed and avoiding an accident.

I have them in my vehicles I feel I’m covered from idiot drivers I’ve also caught a fly tipper who was then fined £1000 from my footage so worth every penny next base make is wot I have £60

I have one in my work van and private car. I've caught all sorts of incidents that are amazing to watch back but more importantly my private cam did catch an incident of a lad that pushed another lad of a moped and rode off on it. The lad that was pushed off was injured so I stayed with him till ambulance arrived then the police asked to take a look at my footage and they got the number plate of the car the thief jumped out of so it helped to track them down and the lad got his moped back.

You have misinterpreted my point. Despite who has the right of way and we know who has, for the sake of avoiding having an accident would it be unreasonable to suggest the one who has, slightly adjusts his speed or position to avoid a collision? It seems to me, that in some dash cam videos that some drivers seem unable to compromise. There are shocking examples of driving out there, and those with dash cams don’t always drive or ride perfectly themselves.

Interesting point OP. I think some people will purposely not get out of the way (if they can), with the intent of suing the other person as they 'have it on cam'.

They are definitely useful to have.

I see where you are coming from and yes having a dash cam means dealing with an accident where you know the other driver is at fault is much easier so could make you more bloody minded. Pre dash cams accident claims were a total PITA so you tended to be more cautious..

I got one about 7 years ago, as had a accident, some lady decided to stop in the middle of the road on a 60mph road, with no hazards or lights on, raining and dark too, had not chance to stop in time, she accepted her fault when we first spoke and that she should have not stopped where she did, then insurance took her side, and i got the blame, since then always have it on. if i would have had the footage i believe i would have not got the blame.

these cameras should be factory installed and required by law, and checked at every mot, front and rear.
