What Three Words

I saw an article on BBC news about this App which the emergency services have been using to locate people, it breaks the world into 3m grid squares and assigns every one three random words to identify it.

It sounds a bit convoluted, but once you’ve got your head around it it’s pretty simple and logical and easy to use;

Thought it might be of particular interest to Fabbers who’re maybe reluctant to share their actual address (or in my case, have a notoriously hard-to-find house), or maybe those of us who are onto Outdoor fun as a really easy way to manage to locate each other?

Anybody using it already?

As a geospatial analyst ...

It's pretty much a load of bollocks

They talk a very good game, and because it's quirky it gets publicity.

But you cannot use it to tag an asset or location to a significant degree of accuracy for it to be of any real use

As you can tell I have a professional disdain about W3W

Some interesting reading - as a professional I totally appreciate your disdain for it, and as a mountaineer I had some fairly strong doubts about it from the outset in relation to accurately pinpointing people in need of assistance, especially as the emergency services can track your phone accurately with your prior consent (through a link I believe?)

However, back to my Fab-based thoughts;

We’re unlikely to see any UK locations rapidly changing because of tectonic activity, if anybody is exceeding the 10,000 address free limit they should probably consider seeking professional help for their sex addiction, and so perhaps, for the laymen on here just looking for a convenient, app based location gizmo, it could be helpful?
