Getting married

Totally just had me in tears of joy and hope.

Did you see the couple on the news where the hubby has alzheimer's. He thought his wife was his new girlfriend and asked her to marry him

Even better he remembered the next day and the day after and they got married again and now he believes he's a newlywed.

He fell in love with her all over again, and again and again

Unfortunately capacity is what counts. Its horrendous and sad but I very much doubt that he had the capacity to understand xx

Having dealt with the heartbreak of dementia in my own family several times, including early onset, it is these beautiful moments that lift the spirits... It never mattered to me who my gran, my uncle, my mum or my younger sister thought/thinks I am... Knowing they are happy in that moment, glad to see me, and not feeling confused or frustrated by their awareness that something isn't quite as it should be... Seeing them at peace in themselves and happy, even if they think I'm just the cleaner... That does the heart good. Lovely to read this post P xx
