"I was only talking to George Harrison last night about this very thing and we both agreed that it may be possible because as we all know the earth is square but George’s philosophy was that if we were to round off all the edges then it would be possible to interloop the time continuum which would in turn invert and rotate the the earths axis thus shifting time back. "... one day, when we can travel faster than the speed of light, and it will happen" No. It won't. It's not physically possible. Time travel isn't possible either. Though it does make for some excellent storytelling. A Sound Of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is a great short story.

"...the main issue is one of power. We don't yet have a sufficient practical source of power to enable us to travel at the speed of light, or even beyond it. At the moment, we can only harness the power of atoms. When we can harness the power of a star, then it may be possible." Sadly getting to the speed of light isn't just a question of more power . If you accelerate something (with mass) you find that it takes more and more energy to accelerate each little bit as you get faster. In fact, it would take an infinite amount of energy to accelerate something with mass (however small) to the speed of light, so even all the energy in the whole universe isn't enough . Other possible ways of making time machines have been proposed though. I remember seeing one that involved spinning a heavy enough neutron star fast enough. Nobody was quite sure if it would actually work of if it would reveal some reason why you *couldn't* spin the star that fast. In any case that type of time machine could only take you back as far as the point at which you created the machine (spun up the star). Which would neatly take care of the "so why don't we see time travellers now?" problem.

Don’t be so blinkered.... people said the earth was flat, you could never reach the moon, people even said you would die trying to do a four minute mile until roger banister..... life and technology moves on, you can try and ignore it, but one day travel faster than the speed of light will happen x A Sound Of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is a great short story."

"Seems no one has mentioned the LHC at CERN yet some interesting theories surrounding that also Nikola Tesla was supposedly rumoured to have discovered a form of time travel and did you know when he died the US government collected his research (but couldn’t figure a lot of it out so they got independents in to help with it one of those was a relative of president trump) it’s the same technology used in the Philadelphia experiment apparently " I know. Tesla was a genius, completely misunderstood in his time. Crazy but look at history and most people are like that actually. He invented many things we are only just starting to catch up with and able to use today. Wireless electricity being a recent popular one of the many things he did. Like Einstein, the guy had a way to off seeing the world in ways we could never comprehend, the only difference being Einstein was theoretical whereas Tesla was applied physics and actually built things

"On faster than light travel. There is an interesting concept called the Alqubierre drive that’s suppose to make the space around you move rather than you move through space. I think you could break light speed using it in theory" You can appear to time travel, and you can appear to break the speed of light, but you dont really. Time as we understand it is nothing other than our movement through space. What is 1 second? its a small movement around the sun, nothing more. This means that time is not a real thing and it changes based on your speed. For example people on top of a mountain are actually "time travelling" as they are actually moving through space at a different speed and aging differently to people at sea level. People in space are "time travelling" too, and so are people at the speed of light or beyond it. But really people are just moving at different speeds through space. So to go back in time you have to move the entire earth and suns movement backward. In order for this to work time has to be a real thing, not just a way for us to measure movement. It has to be a real strand that you can remove yourself from and then re-enter at any point.

It has to be a real strand that you can remove yourself from and then re-enter at any point." MrD I agree with you but also somewhat disagree. Space is different than time where time is the 4th dimension so it is kind of incorrect to say this. However, I understand what you are saying, that time is a measurement which we created a unit, based on the Earth's movement around the sun. I guess it's just a matter of semantics. However, by that logic speed is nothing more than something we created a unit to measure and therefore you can't really travel at different speeds, you only change your relative position to other objects at any given time frame. Everything is relative to everything else around it, whether that's objects, speed, time, temperature, light, etc. So when you say you can't actually step into a machine and step out in another point in time, the answer it actually yes you can and no you can't at the same time. To you, stepping into a machine that generates a time dilation field, the passage of time around you slows down. When you reach the point in the future you wish to travel too, you remove the time dilation field and the passage of time synchronises with the outside world again, allowing you to exit the machine. As far as you are concerned, you have just stepped into the machine and stepped out again in the future. Thus you have just travelled forwards in time relative to yourself. What you are describing is that, relative to the outside world, you haven't really traveled in time at all. Your friend watched you get in the machine, you froze in a kind of suspended animation with no heartbeat etc, then they watched you become "normal" again and step out of the machine. 10 years could have passed that they had visited you, yet you haven't aged a day. It is similar to how it would look to you, and the outside world, if you were cryogenically frozen. It is the premise used in the famous novel The Time Machine by HG Wells and made into a movie. In it, you see time relative to him continue at a normal pace, while time passes faster in the world around him. . The way that time travel would need to work for everyone to see you jump from one point in time to another as you suggest, would be using a wormhole, theoretically from one point in space to any other like a tunnel, they believe could also pass from one point on time to another too. It could happen, but is much less likely to accomplish with our current understanding than traveling forwards by using time dilation. MrD
