as cycling fans on forum will know it's the first of the cycling one day spring classics today, can mark cavendish win for a second time?,riders to look for challenging him are aussie sprinter matt goss last years winner, oscar freire 3 times a winner,or could it be lone break specialists fabian cancellarra or philippe gilbert?,in the gb sky team are boasson hagen a hard rider who could get into a break and win,and jeremy hunt and ian stannard who will guide cav over the final 2 climbs, the cipressa and poggio so he can use his devastating sprint in the finish.

be nice if cav does win to keep up the present day high profile of GB riders, his team mate bradley wiggins rode to victory in the 8 day paris-nice race to emulate the late tommy simpson, incidentally cav emulated tommy simpson also as tommy won milan san remo & the world road race championship and it took 40+ years before another british rider won these races!.

i think cav will have to keep eyes on tom boonen and peter sagan today but a cav win is a distinct possibility for the remarkable manx missile!.

the 1st day... i'll have you know i was the one person who watched paris-nice live on eurosport hd!!!! tut tut tut...

okay... since milan-san remo is the "sprinters classic"... i think the sky team will try and keep the race together so that cavendish can repeat.......

there's a small group away at the moment but it's not yet halfway and the climbs are yet to come, main probs for sky i think are philippe gilbert and fabian cancellara who will try to break it up a bit on the climbs but sky have some good men in there to haul cav over the top ready to launch that sprint in san remo.

the other members of the teram will have the chance to shine come paris-roubaix,tour of flanders and gent-wevelgem.

though i don't think he'll win today, boonen is in best form for a few years and will be interesting to watch On the cobbles.

riding the isle of man mountain time trial a few times was enough for me!,rode as a vet and got caught before ramsey by ex-pro rob holden for 10 minutes and later for 20 mins at creg na baa by julian winn of the welsh national team with director shane sutton screaming at him as they headed the last few miles to the grandstand finish. mind you i was inspired to collect 100 quid for first on handicap so it was not a bad morning!.

shame about cav sliding through the bunch on a nice climb and out the back about 3/4 of the way through,he had 4 team mates around him to try pace him back but was shaking his head to say he had nothing in reserve and 3 went back to the bunch, cav did get back into a large chasing group but was never in contention for the win after getting dropped on that climb.

the final couple of climbs had riders jumping all over the place till 3 escaped on final climb and held to the finish where simon gerrans out sprinted fabian'spartacus'cancellara for his 3rd win of the season.
