"This one isn't so much an invention as just a better way of doing things and is perfectly feasible. I think socks should be sold individually rather than in pairs and there should an ISBN-type system for identifying them. Having odd socks is a well-known phenomenon due to loss or holes in forming. It would be good to be able to get a new one to replace a lost or damaged one. Buying a new pair doesn't help because you still have an odd one. But how would you know which to get to match the one you have? Each design of sock could have a unique identifier. Not only would that help replacing socks, but also with matching them up when they come out of the wash. What do you think? Luke - making the world better one sick at a time. " But what about fading. The new one will be quite a few washes behind so won't match.

" It doesn't solve every issue, but if somebody really wants to then they can buy a new pair and it would be just the same as their beloved old pair. I don't think faded socks is anywhere as big an issue as odd socks.

"An automatic get ready device that washes you and dresses you in the morning. " You don't need a machine. I'd volunteer for that. Luke

" Simple answer, when you get a hole in one sock then bin the pair. No more odd socks, one my sons pisses me off, he intentionally wears off socks which then leaves me with countless odd socks, does my nut in

"A device to kill cars in their tracks, the technology is there, each car has its own individual code, stick the Reg into the kill device and hey presto it turns its engine off. Be a great bit of kit for the police when going after stolen cars and the kill devices could be at strategic locations around towns similar to anpr cameras. " Genius right there

We tried that over here and the bait car got pinched and was found stripped in a chop shop a few days later. True story that. The bait car was on loan from Land Rover and the police had to pay a guy to rebuild it from the recovered parts. They sent it back to Land Rover who were none the wiser.

It also increases waste sent to landfill.

Most cars have engine management and or speed limiters. Plus they have GPS. Enforce speed limits by connecting to two. #2 give drivers the ability to "ping" other cars for bad driving (Bluetooth, WiFi connections). 10 pings (from different drivers) in a 24hr period finds your engine disabled for an hour... It could also report the fact to the Police.
