I drink a lot of coffee at home and at work..... but ffs.... I have NEVER ( maybe twice in my life ) had a decent cup of coffee while i'm out.

Seriously ..... department stores, restaurants, cafe's , coffee shops ....

How the fuck is it so lucrative/popular

It's vile.

We have a shop locally that sells motorcycle clothing they give free coffee while you shop. It’s one of the best coffees I’ve ever had and it’s Free

It cheeses me off also. How some of the people at Costa’s what I drink can fuck the coffee up is beyond me but they do.

Almost thinking of sending a email complaining on how most of there staff don’t know there arse from there elbow when it comes to making such a simple thing as coffee.

When I'm at Wetherspoons, I'll sometimes have their bottomless coffee (self-service machine).

I've learned that to get a decent-tasting cup, I'll put an espresso in first, then a regular black coffee on top of that. Fills the cup exactly.

Subway coffee isn't too bad, either.

It varies Vine. Most of the time a good instant ( just for the time factor ) but when I am at home I brew Comlumbian usually a 4 or I use a cafetiere. I don't use a coffee machine with pods and won't. I don't laugh at people who do ... but by fuck I want to.

We use a local ish place, cedar farm who grind their own and not too pricy or we open bag of Taylors..

Pop in the cafetiere etc..

It's become an industry like others pandering to the aspirations of some and able to get away with extortionate prices..

The best coffee I make is at home in a cafetière. Other than that the coffee served in the lounge of the Savoy hotel in London is worthy of a second cup.

Did you realise that Cappuccino / latte is loaded with calories due to milk content! Two cups a day, which is the norm (Costa/Starbucks style) is almost a litre of milk. Would you drink a litre of milk at home?

I'm not that much of a coffee snob in all honesty. I quite like the sugary ones at certain times of the month. The best coffee I've had would be in Italy (obviously) and a place near my work in London. Otherwise I just make do.

Agree i find coffee at costa/starbucks most mainstream places disappointing. I tend to stick to small independent places even then they can be hit and miss.

I feel your pain Granny. There was a tiny French patisserie in a nearby town that served the best coffee and fresh croissant ever. They closed

. We're tired of hopefully trying places only to be served a cup of something resembling mud stirred into hot water. I think they use cheap beans and not enough of them.

That's because you're contributing to overheads and staff costs. If you factored rent/mortgage, your time, power and water your coffee would cost a lot more at home too

I agree having just bought one. I get my beans ground locally until i decide on a coffee grinder of my own (quite like the hand grinders currently) Good coffee & the aeropress is so easy to clean

Years ago I sat in a Starbucks in a hotel on the Wirral. I idly picked up a book about the genesis of Starbucks.... I learned that places who are serving you bitter coffee are using the beans too many times. I seem always to get dark bitter coffee and i've lost count of the number of people who think I don't like strong coffee as a result of my raising the issue.. I LOVE strong coffee.... Just not the shite that people are willing to have foisted upon them in the name of profit.

Us too, we often just go home rather than have coffee out which is a shame as we really enjoy sitting by the sea drinking coffee. Tea just doesn't cut it for us.

I agree that coffee out is expensive but you're missing their overheads. Town centre rent and rates aren't cheap and even if they're paying their baristas minimum wage there's still staff costs and investment in and maintenance of coffee machines. The French place we went to used to charge £2:10 for a large cup of excellent coffee. They went under sadly.
