Obviously none of us who've replied in this thread knows where the problem lies, sometimes different problems require different solutions.

I'm a stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor. I was told the cancer would kill me in 6 months. Through positive thinking and a "fuck 'em" attitude I beat it in just over 3 and that was 30 years ago this month.

One divorce and a lost son later I emigrated to Australia for 10 years. 1 year in and I get a call to say my Dad was dying of prostate cancer, they never told me so it wouldn't stop my dream of a new life. I couldn't get back in the 2 weeks left he had. During that time I felt more alone than ever before. Over 10,000 miles away I couldn't allow myself to loose it, the pain he was in had me praying for the end to hurry up.

I bottled it up, I still had to work. Like a steam pipe under pressure I was about to blow because for some reason I couldn't cry. Manly pride or I could risk going to pieces I don't know.

I eventually told an Aussie mate of mine who bought me a cd to listen to by The Verve. He pointed out a track and said "this songs about his dying father. When the drugs don't work means the chemo's stopped working and it's only making him worse"

I played it after a night shift watching a beautiful sunrise over the Indian Ocean and finally cried my eyes out. It somehow made me feel calmer so I could deal with it.

Life made me tuff and until now only 2 people in this world knew what I've just said. I've said all this so you can understand me when I say don't be afraid to talk about stuff, don't let your stupid manly pride we have get in the way no matter what's your drama. It won't be as bad as you think I promise.

Don't be like I was and bottle it up, talk to friends or strangers. Like everyone here I'm available too. Hope this is half as therapeutic for you as it was for me writing it. Never give up buddy.

Please don't ever think your life is not valued. It is precious.

Please keep talking, to whoever offers an ear.

It is important to bear in mind that tough times come and try us, and by god that they do.

But learn from it. Keep moving forward, live, learn. Laugh.

I lost a friend to suicide recently. It was a shock, out of people in my circle he would of been the last guy I would of said was feeling so low. He was always so positive

I keep going over thinking I missed something.

So please keep talking, and when you are done. Talk a bit more

I'm so sorry to read this OP. Firstly, I can totally empathise with how you're feeling, I've been there and I understand how bleak it can feel. Try and remember that you are valued and that these feelings are only temporary and they will pass.

Secondly, be gentle with yourself, stop berating or beating yourself up for what you feel your issues or negative aspects are.

Thirdly, reach out. Not just on here but to friends, family (if you have them), call the samaritans, they're there to help and they really do help.

Finally, get help. Go to your doctor, talk to them and get a referral to your local mental health services.

Remember that it's OK not to be OK. Many people suffer from mental health issues and getting the support that you need is important, don't suffer in silence.

If you need to message then please do, talking can and does help.

Tea
