Off the back of the men in lingerie thread, there were some ‘interesting’ opinions, but I couldn’t help but wonder why is it women wearing men’s clothing is almost never considered cross dressing, but men wearing women’s clothing almost always is, why is this ?

I’m unsure Tame, what do you think?

Maybe one day we’ll live in a world were clothes are truly genderless.

I think, in general there's an imbalance.

If a woman sleeps with lots of men, she's often considered a Slag, whereas men are often praised for the same.

If a woman is bisexual, most men find it a turn on, whereas it's common for women to be put off bi bi guys.

Women can wear "mens" underwear or clothes and few people bay an eyelid, whereas for men to do the same is often seen as weird or an indication of their sexuality.

It's not fair, it's utterly strange to me. And I'm not 100% why....interesting...

I do think it's becoming less of a big deal though.

I think many see crossdressers and transvestites as some form of threat whereas women wearing men's clothes aren't in much the same way that promiscuous women are called sluts and men are studs. No rationale for it at all

Men's clothes aren't that exclusive in that women wear trousers and shirts and things too. So borrowing your partner's hoodie isnt that big a deal, women wear hoodies too.

I think when a woman dresses "as a man" in that she attempts to appear masculine then she faces similar judgement.

It's a societal thing I believe. Say 200 years ago it would have been unusual to see a woman in anything other than a dress. The problem with this is that a dress makes it incredibly difficult to perform certain tasks like riding on horseback for instance. So for the women who didnt want to ride side saddle or in a carriage they would have had to have worn riding britches which wasnt exactly socially acceptable.

Since then we've had womens suffrage and womens lib which totally changed attitudes to women and it became socially acceptable for women to wear trousers. Cross dressing men however have always been lumped in with homosexuality in that it's seen as degenerate. Although more acceptable now, we still have a long way to go.

If women's clothes somehow make a person inferior, then it's not the person who has a problem.

I’ve been called a cross dresser in Germany before for wearing a three piece men’s suit and stilettos. Was weird though.

It seems that we have focussed so much on women's rights that men are falling behind a little?

Society, in general, still see men as the authoritarian and anything feminine weak. Could be why done think this?

What pisses me off though, is that my Mr. Looks better in my underwear than I do

I think it's because - unlike women who wear male clothing - it's a minority of men who dress as women; certainly in public.

There's nothing like minorities for bringing out labels.
