I remember my dad grounding me because I'd stolen some pound coins from his giant whiskey bottle (caught red handed) on the same day as the biggest party of the year. I was about 12. There was going to be boys at the party and someone mentioned they had some Cherry B's and 8 cigarettes and so I ran away determined never to return home.

I packed some frozen sausage rolls, leg warmers and a Duran Duran album and I was off. I was traced an hour or so later at said party which in hindsight was a stupid move!

So, did you ever run away and if yes, why and what did you pack?

Yes i thought id be arrested when i was 8 for cutting a telephone wire so i took my tent and went to live in the park

I packed some clothes, my CD player and some CDs, a book, notepad, pen and personal toiletries.

I was gone 4 days when I was 15.

Somewhere near here

I packed some sweets and made it to the shops when I was about 7 or 8. I thought my parents and my brother would be missing me by then...they didn’t even realise I was gone.

I ran away with friends many times, to many to remember, nearly always picked up by the police and returned, nobody listened to us.

Finally broke free at age 13 never to go back.

My dad caught me in his bar smoking a cigar and drinking some of his malt. Made me smile the whole thing and drink a glass full of whiskey. I was nine. Tried to run away but went straight into the front door and knocked myself out.

He’d be done for that if he did it today. Always remind him..

Can’t stand the smell of whiskey even today and the smell of cigars makes me heave.

Hated my teenage years as I was constantly bullied at school and I was always on the verge of packing up and going.

Surprisingly I ended up at Plymouth Poly at 18 and had the best years

Yes! I made it to the end of the driveway with a cloth on a stick, packed with vest, pants and socks... I took my inspiration from teddy ruckspin

As a child I was going to runaway and packed my games including kerplunk and guess who.

When I was about 17 I just fucked off, had had enough and went to live with some mates. I remember my dad coming round trying to persuade me to go back. Never really went back home to live.

I was about ten and had a bit of a huff about being ignored at home thanks to my little brother who was a complete spoilt brat. I got my bike and put a packet of crisps (not allowed to have without express permission ‘they will ruin your tea’) a sausage roll from Skeltons, also forbidden, in my saddle bag and rode off into the blue yonder thinking how sorry they’d all be when they realised I’d gone.

Made it to the other side of Beverley and halfway down somewhere called Long Lane. Ate my pack up and realised I had no idea where the end of long lane came out or where to go when I got to the end, so turned round and went back home.

No one had even noticed I’d gone and later on I got into big trouble for taking food without asking so went without my tea. I was furious.

Ooh a skeltons sausage roll I remember them well. And I’m sure you’ll know now but Long Lane comes out at Beverley Minster so least you would have had shelter

I ran away when I was about 14, it was impulsive after a particularly nasty beating at home and in the knowledge a wrose inevwas cominh later. Because it was impulsive I had fuck all on me and was picked up a few hours later. The police had been notified but weren't interested why I'd done it. I do sometimes wonder what would have happened if I'd had time to plan and how far and how long I'd have been gone.

When I was about 8 or 9 I had had enough so I told my grandad I was going to run away ‘tomorrow’. He cuddled me and then said ‘my little blackbird tomorrow will never come because tomorrow you will decide to run away the next day tomorrow so you’ll never do it’.

Grandad was right as usual.

Somewhere in Co. Down

My sister and I decided we were going to run away I was about 6 she was 9 so we grabbed some biscuits and marmalade (I don't even like marmalade) and off we went. Well we made it halfway down the drive when my parents came along in the car and said they were going to town and did we want to go get ice cream. Yep the bribe of ice cream won and we completely forgot about running away after.
