they used to charge me something close to that years ago as i had a 2007 jeep Grand Cherokee - bought her new but had old merc engine in it made a grunt, 12/13 miles pg in town, sold her in 2011 when she was 4 years old. I never complained about the tax as i saw myself lucky to be able to afford a nice car, and keep it road legal.

Blame your local council. Roads are paid for from council tax.

It was, initially, introduced to maintain and upgrade roads. Hence the term Road Fund Licence. These days, it is just collected to pay politicians’ expenses.....

Really, is it time for the weekly “I’ve got a Maserati” thread again?

The last one went well, I’m sure this one will be even better. If you’re really complaining about paying out what amounts to the cost of 2 tyres per year, your finances are in a bad place.

If on the other hand you’re announcing to all that MaserMan has a Maserati, maybe find a way to do it that doesn’t make you sound tight with your money?

Not much sympathy from me - big polluting engine so the government are trying to tax it off the road. You could always sell it and buy something newer. All new cars since 1st April 2017 with a list price of under £40K are taxed at £145 from second year on.

I never get this, why would a car impress a woman? Possessions are just that, possessions. If a man is a dick it wouldn't matter what possessions they have, they are still a dick

Get a Fiesta and save yourself your car tax.

Ruby you know every third profile claiming to be a lady suggest their choice maybe influenced by sugar! Of course some desperate men are aware that declaring their wealth or generosity may provide them with some relief"

Thats when they are getting the possessions or wonga more than him showing them his car ( or not as he doesn't want to put a pic of it up )

Why do people complain about road tax and car insurance and mpg - do they not have a brain cell to find out before hand and see what the car tax rate/etc is or is that too difficult?

The number of times I've heard jokers at work crying about the road tax/etc just makes me lol and when i ask them did they not check, you want to see their mush

"I can accept paying but roads round my way are shit huge pot holes and nothing’s ever done about them "

Go on to Fix My Street. Councils don't get much, if anything, from the car tax take but local roads fall to them to fix. Austerity means that they don't have people to inspect the streets so holes that go unreported get bigger.

On your OP, this is a tax you can avoid. You make the choice about having a car and the type of car. Be prepared for those costs to increase to deal with air pollution.

I believe it's from 1mph to around 20. However I'm sure you'll find as electric cars become more prevalent they will make ones that just use engine noises, I believe mustang already do it in their hybrid muscle cars, the noise isnt actually being produced from the engine, it's basically a recording

Battery tech is moving towards them being used to store energy after use in cars and bikes (the rise of electric bikes doesn't seem to elicit the same level criticism).

When did “they” used to say diesel was good?

The C02 emissions were lower because they generally do more mpg than petrol cars, but I don’t remember anyone saying it’s like free fresh air.

Why? What's the point?

The majority of road noise you get at lower speeds .. around town for example where pedestrians are ... is tyre noise. Modern petrol engines barely make any sound.

I don't hate the OP. There are very few people I hate and none are on this thread. Why would I be jealous of someone getting something they want through their hard work and sacrifice? I have done the same.

I don't see anyone else exhibiting hatred or jealousy either. That's lazy social media opinion of people not agreeing with the OP (whatever it might say, not this OP specifically - cos you've got to spell these things out to get people to understand).

I just don't think a rant about a CHOICE deserves sympathy.

It’s not haters/jealousy at all here, it’s when when he used it as a dick extension and then couldn’t handle the banter was the main problem "

"Why do cyclists and horses clog up the roads but pay no tax "

Road tax doesn't pay for roads, it goes into the general taxation pot.

National routes such as motorways are paid for out of the general taxation pot.

Local roads, used by cyclists and horse riders are paid for by the local councils, via the council tax that everyone pays.

Hope that explains things for you

"Why do cyclists and horses clog up the roads but pay no tax "

Because they were there before cars and have a legal right to be there. Unlike motorists they don't even need a licence.

I'm a cyclist and I do pay tax? Including on my car. Which is a lot less than yo because I don't drive a ridiculously uneconomical car with a massive engine. Oh and vehicle excise duty, well the clue I'd in the name and it's nothing to do with roads and everything to do with the vehicle.

And we don't clog up roads, cars do. But I fear trying to explain that to you would be futile.

Every hold up on a country road is a cyclist and they have no respect for motorists get on the path

Jesus h.....Sherman tank! I've never seen an 8 cylinder engine it must be huge......but you'll pay through the nose for it in tax.... government want to be seen to be reducing engine sizes so hike up the tax, smaller engine smaller tax bill....but if you can afford to run a beast then fair play....

Because it’s an emissions tax, bikes don’t produce any. This bit might be hard for you to understand, but if everyone on a bike was in a car the roads would be even more clogged up, because get this, cars are bigger than bikes.

Unless it is a designated cycle path ... it is illegal to cycle on pavements .. Highway Code rule 64

In the same way that you have no respect for cyclists and horseriders?

Respect is a 2 way street. I guess when you view other road users as holding you up and think they shouldn't be on the road it's easy to decide that they uniformly have no respect for you. It doesn't mean that have similar disdain for all motorists though

I did misread the title originally and thought it was 'taxi rant'. This is what the taxi drivers do when they are on here at the rank.

"What’s wrong with working hard and getting the things you want I make sacrifices

100%. Haters=jealous

Exactly this. Talk of hate and jealousy is completely misplaced and nothing more than an obvious and lazy way to detract from the fact the OP isnt getting either the sympathy or the plaudits the thread was presumably designed for"

The guy's proud of his car, he's using it to his advantage if he can to project a comfortable lifestyle. It's a sporty car so he's also projecting an element of danger, a risk taker. The reason for the thread, being a complaint about heavy tax considering the price of the "weekend" car he owns, might have been made tongue in cheek or to show off. The thread bombed either way but that's the natural order of things, people will rally round and troop together to slap away any contentious or stupid thread or comment and the OP with it. It's no drama whichever way it is, haters gonna hate and bators gonna bate lol I'm calling you a maserbator but purely out of jealousy OP

Personally I think you should sell it and buy a sporty classic and pay classic insurance and maybe get classic car road tax exemption
