"See, the first one had Tom Cruise, it had val kilmer, it had Tom (I just cum in my knickers) skerrit, it had huge fucking loud aeroplanes that didn't help my already wet knickers from staring at Tom skerrit and it had cheese and 80's things. Just about the most perfect package and NOW they've gone and done another one. And I'm torn on whether I should move along and take a look or stay trapped in my 80's bubble with the first one." Exactly! It's an absolute classic of a film with an incredible, memorable theme song. Just another film that doesn't NEED a sequel.

"Nothing will ever beat the first one but I’m still curious where the new one will go" I recon that he’ll be a great pilot, have a crisis of confidence, struggle to be a great pilot until he meets a beautiful woman who helps reignite his confidence and he becomes an even better pilot........

Well maybe so but even if she had no interest in being a part of it maybe it would have been nice to at least tell her they were gonna make the movie.

I read that Kelly McGuiness didn't know it was being made until after!! If you look at the pics of Kelly McGillis recently - it looks like time hasn’t done her any favours! For me one of the all time favourite movie moments is when she walks down the middle of the class with an amazing view of her seamed stockings. I fell in love with it in 1986.... and still love it now! Love Rachel xxx Oooooo. Now THATS a bit of an insult. She was a major key star in the first one. "Who will be his sidekick? Could be goose's son will Meg Ryan be in it too x " As I understand it, the plot focusses around Maverick teaching Goose’s son to fly and is still haunted by Goose’s death. He is now the Chief Instructor at Top Gun. Apparently he is still a Captain ... but Iceman is also in it .... and is his boss - an Admiral!! ... interesting dynanic! R zx

It’s a course you can be sent in at any time, so that could very well work. 35 isn’t that old for a USN pilot ...

"Keep watching the trailer back and still I can't make up my mind... Is this one step too far for Mr. cruise by making a sequel to his greatest ever movie, loved by millions, almost perfection?? Discuss people. " The trailer looks great which is rare for a cruise movie. The first movie was awful when I saw it as a youngster and hardly his greatest movie in my own opinion so this sequel seems justified and hopefully better than the first. His greatest movies in my opinion are a few good men and far & away. After that all his other movies are too focused on him.

"Same as the film The Italian Job , some should just be left alone " Saying that...there is a natural successor (not sequel) to The Italian Job. Different story, but same calibre. It's English, set in the 70s, has a black Mini outside a certain London Prison, involves an international gang. A famous posh actor as the head honcho, a brilliant sense of humour, that gettaway and a real feel good factor, that is sorely missing in the American hash up. This little forgotten gem is called "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" It's worth hunting down.

"Watching tonight on my new tele woo hoo How? dodgy way I am guessing. And no matter how big someone's TV is you really need to see this on the big screen. " Probably the worst way to watch it is at the cinema Most uk cinema screens are only 2k res witch means the quality isn’t good at all Hence why they have you sit at a distance as once your out off the feild off pixel density anything from 1080p and up will look the same To be honest you get better quality sitting watching it at home on a home tv screen as most people these days have a 4K tv But granted the quality off the copy that’s out just now is not as good as the cinema but ones the quality there then would be better at home I will injoy watching it at 4K upscaled to 8K very soon

But what about the different format (21:9 maybe?), the compression used, the colour bit rate (are all the components in your system rated for 4k @60 Hz at 4:4:4 bit depth?). Actual pixel density is only one part of the chain, and I'd argue 1080p 4:4:4 is going to be better than 4k 4:2:2 or 4:2:0. And don't get me started on audio. Your home system is not going to match a cinema. It might be good, but does it meet Dolby Atmos standards? (7.2.4). Go watch in the cinema. It's how it was made to be enjoyed.

Your home system is not going to match a cinema. It might be good, but does it meet Dolby Atmos standards? (7.2.4). Go watch in the cinema. It's how it was made to be enjoyed. Ooo no my system is not rate for 4K 60hz Try on the bleeding edge off teach 8k 60hz 12bit colour it’s a top off the line Samsung Q950 it’s rate as the best tv screen in the world right now It is a no compromise tv with ever bit off tech available at the moment Crammed in to it And yet you happily compromise on the quality of the movie with some dodgy TS. Nope as I watched the copy on my phone I will wait till a it hits a clean copy and then watch it on the tv with the tv on full upscale AI mode I've got to say your missing out not seeing it on the big screen. There are not many films I feel should really be watched on the big screen but this is definitely one of them. Ans the sound too... can't replicate that at home. I'll be off to see it again at some point in the next week. Each to there own on that respective but even to this day I am blow away with just how good the tv is As for 99% off it’s life it’s switch in game mode But that one’s in a while when I switch it to full movie mode nothing comes even remotely close I have done my compatriots with movies I have seen at the cinema and then watch them again on the tv And the tv completely blows the cinema screen out the water The one down side to it is it has ruined everything for me in terms off watching things As once you lived with it for so long everything else just falls so short by a mile It’s like own a Ferrari then down gradeing to a 1.1 eco boost Ford lol " So was the remake any good then?

"Watching tonight on my new tele woo hoo How? dodgy way I am guessing. And no matter how big someone's TV is you really need to see this on the big screen. Probably the worst way to watch it is at the cinema Most uk cinema screens are only 2k res witch means the quality isn’t good at all Hence why they have you sit at a distance as once your out off the feild off pixel density anything from 1080p and up will look the same To be honest you get better quality sitting watching it at home on a home tv screen as most people these days have a 4K tv But granted the quality off the copy that’s out just now is not as good as the cinema but ones the quality there then would be better at home I will injoy watching it at 4K upscaled to 8K very soon If you're watching a 16:9 silent movie then I might agree with you. But what about the different format (21:9 maybe?), the compression used, the colour bit rate (are all the components in your system rated for 4k @60 Hz at 4:4:4 bit depth?). "We saw the original at home again, on Friday then went to the cinema and saw it properly. She didn't know it but our allocated seats were F15 for her and F14 for me. (Good call!) I clocked the Eagle and Tomcat references in a heartbeat. The audience made all the right noises at all the right times. There were a few references to other massive films. The first film was a rock and roll pubescent adventure, the sequel is a much more retrospective, which only makes sense if you have seen the original. What I can say is this; without giving too much away, the whole production crew knew what was expected from them and... go on, go and see it for yourself! " I've watched the original today and seeing the new one on Wednesday

"Just got back from watching it. And I loved the first one as a kid growing up and watched the original only the other night on sky. When I watched it back I found it pretty cheesy but ok. The modern top gun is actually great and I dare say it is almost better than the original. Great acting, great action a must watch. The only thing not quite on par, the originals soundtrack was damn well hard to beat and although there are a few of the original tunes in number two, it’s not quite the same." I agree much better than the original

"I thought it was quite boring and predictable to be honest " I thought the first was pretty shit too tbh. Can't help thinking there is just a lot of nostalgia about it and if it came out as an original film now, it would flop.

"Hubby’s review was: One of the best sequels he has ever seen. Been to watch it twice and going again. If you love the original for what it is… an over cheesy, heavily American, high octane, homo-erotic blast with a killer nostalgic soundtrack… then you will love it. As a neutral, the plane sequences and general humour and sentiment are good too. I haven’t seen it - not a top gun fan " I’ve been to see it & I loved it , Maverick goes out with Penny Benjamin in the film , who is mentioned in the first film “ you did high speed passes over 5 air control towers & 1 admirals daughter “

"Just been to see it. The areal scenes are great and the F-14/SU-57 combat CGI is very believable. The acting is crap and it's dripping with cheese and testosterone. "It's an awesome film. The jets are real and only do things they are actually capable of in real life." Not strictly true. The Darkstar is totally fictional. America doesn't have any F-14's, not even scrap ones. They destroyed them because they were worried parts would be stripped off and sold to Iran which is the only other country in the world that has them. The 5th Gen SU-57 can do all the stuff you see in the film but there's currently only 3 operational and they're Russian. Boring I know but I'm a nerd for this stuff.
