Yes, I’ve lived there 4 years and I wished I had moved sooner. I love the music, art, festivals, community spirit, shopping, exhibitions. So many choices for food and it’s amazing. I live in the suburbs so rarely go into central but love the areas around me and east and some in north London.

Can't stand the place and haven't been there for 25+ years.

Too fast, too pushy, too many people, the place never sleeps. It's 24 hours non stop and that's not for me

I love it in small doses.

Driving and trying to park around there without getting fined is almost impossible for me in some areas.

I don't love it, no

I'm from London originally and enjoyed the buzz of city life in my youth / the city banking lifestyle through the crazy 90's

I now favour slower paced remote rural countryside living

Albeit, Poochiepoo! might be a good incentive for a return visit to the big smoke! ...

My hometown...

Loved it when I was growing up. 20 minutes to get to the city and all those gigs and trips to Kensington Market.

I go back once in a while but I wouldn’t ever live there again.

They are the most impatient drivers that I've ever come across. They beep the horn for anything.

And the street signs do my head in. For example..

"no parking 7am to 7pm" then on the same sign underneath that it says "except 10am to 4pm"

Why what’s wrong?"

Packed trains

Traffic

People everywhere

Extortionate prices

Where I come from the schools were shit

Just the mentality of the place.

It really doesn't suit family life. IMO.

I go all over the world to some amazing places. Currently In San Francisco and although I love it here, London is my favourite destination. I grew up In Devon by the sea. I love the sea but get my fix with my travels. I couldn’t live in the hustle and bustle of London so prefer to be a few zones out where I’m surrounded in parks and woods but still only 20 mins to central.

Visited London just a few weeks ago, had a lovely day, London eye, London dungeon, madam Tussauds, and west end show (only fools musical) with a spot of dinner on the River Thames.

So I'm a for London.

Funny thing is, I hated it when I visited for gigs etc. I only loved it when I actually moved here. I’m not a fan of New York either but I would probably love it if I lived there and immersed myself into what it has to offer.

So I'd only been a handful of times until this January and always loved it.

I'm now there very regularly and will make the move permanent very soon.

Its going to be an adjustment as its a totally different pace of life. There is always something to do and places to go and on the whole I love it. I don't think I will ever get used to the tube and don't get me started on the central line!

I’m about 12 mins from London Bridge on overground. Was in east London last Saturday for a music festival in several venues around the area. Love all the art. There’s a free jazz festival 17/18th at Greenwich peninsula which is free. You can just take a blanket and some wine and relax. I went to an urban fete there in May and it was really good.

Oh, I had such adventures living in London for nearly 20 years. Mrs came to London when she was about 2,so essentially a Londoner.

It was a big decision to leave, and we missed it a lot for various reasons for a while, but bringing up our kids here in the sticks has been pretty stress free, and l'm not sure that would have been the case had we remained.

I went to Borough Market a few weeks ago and loved it.

Oh thank you, we will check that out.

We went to the GDIF a month ago and had a blast.

It's a free Arts festival every year its got loads of events over a 2 week period. We went to the opening weekend in Greenwich Park and it was amazing. Also the closing ceremony at the Royal Albert Dock was fantastic. We would recommend that.

Will take a look. I love a free festival or cultural event. Will definitely try to make the jazz one. Someone from here is going to take me to a cool jazz place in deptford. He introduced me to vegan fast food there the other day and now we will explore the jazz. "

Oh sounds great. There is just always so much to explore. The South Bank has some brilliant festivals too.

I have freelance on and off in London. I like the architecture and try to avoid the tube. I love it when you go off the beaten track and find a cracking little pub or shop. To be honest I have never felt threatened and most people in the locals pubs are friendly. Wouldnt mind exploring Hampstead Park, Kings Road and the Regents Canal. Ok 4 days a week

I’m only a few stops from you. Crystal Palace is very green. I come over to the gym there. Great park. People are nice down our way too. Yes, we are almost neigbours and yes that gym is good too and the people are good as well here. I also like to be at the top of the hill where the palace have been sometimes and look out, it is a great view isnt it?

A lot of places are like that. The more time you are in a place the more you discover. I spend a lot of time in New York and have lots of little areas I love now. Nothing touristy or flash, just places to eat, bars, and places to hang out. There are little jems all over the city but you have to spend time there to find them and to love them. I find the same with London.

Born and raised here and there's no end to what you can do. This city is on par with New York as a global powerhouse because it offers everything you could possibly want.

There is a lot of competition for your affections in HK and SF for sure. I grew up in one and have lived and worked in the other too. Both great places and probably more accessible and enjoyable than NYC. I am lucky to have lots of really great friends in all these cities so maybe that makes a place more lovable too. You are very lucky to visit such great places on a regular basis

Born in London grew up there but as soon as we had our kids knew it was time to get the hell out. Dirty, noisy, overpopulated, too much crime. Didn’t feel safe walking around where we lived as a grown man so def didn’t want young daughters growing up there.

Visit central London occasionally and always glad I don’t have to stay anymore.

London

Been living here 12 years this month - still Loving it.

Having said that, I'm sure London has a time limit. I'm a country girl at heart and I'm sure I'll ending up moving out of the City to somewhere more rural in a few years time.

Until then, I'm making the most of all the amazing things London can offer

There is knife crime in many cities, mainly gang related. London just happens to be a bigger place. Don’t really have gangs near where I live so I don’t really feel so bothered. There are areas like many cities that I wouldn’t be walking in after dark.

Hull

Over the years, I was in London, working in different jobs and living in both the immediate Centre plus in outer areas.

But eventually, I grew tired of it. I suppose it was summed up when I moved with my company from London to Edinburgh, arriving there at the start of the annual Festival.

My new boss decided to show me round to familiarise me. Within 100 yards, he'd to stop me to say, "don't rush, you're not in London now!"

When I rarely go to London now, I get through as fast as I can.

There is knife crime in many cities, mainly gang related. London just happens to be a bigger place. Don’t really have gangs near where I live so I don’t really feel so bothered. There are areas like many cities that I wouldn’t be walking in after dark.

I was driving a friend back up to Kings Cross and went 'off piste' to avoid a traffic jam caused by a fatal stabbing in broad daylight in SE London on a sunday lunchtime! I dance all over London and there have been fatalities everywhere."

I travel all over the world and to some very dodgy places and never seen anything like that. Guess I’ve been lucky In my 48 years. All you would see around my area is yummy mummy’s in Birkenstock’s and hummus eating hipsters.

"No. It's one of the worst places to be. Full of non English and dirty unsafe. List goes on.

Trying, really trying not to...

Me too.

Biting my tongue !

Why, he was asked 'Why, if not' and stated his reason.

He was being rude with his comment and racist.

I don't think so necessarily, it may simply be a statement of fact, apparently Brits are officially in the minority now in London aren't they?

He said non English not brits. Any large city like London, New York etc will have many people from around the work working and living there. I don’t think that was his point.

And even if that is the case I would suggest that stating its full of non English as one reason why its the worst place is racist.

"

Not necessarily, it could be totally cultural, there's a difference.

As have there in many major citys.

I feel no less safe in London as I do in Southampton. "

I saw more crime back in Devon. Bloody navy boys and locals don’t mix, add in a students and so many fights on a night out. Never saw anything living in central Birmingham in my 10 years living in that area. Walk a mile in the wrong direction and then yes, I would have been in gang land. You just avoid certain areas.

I did love London (I grew up there) everything about it is great but it's to congested with people and traffic now plus half of Londoners aren't from London any more because we're all moving out as it's to expensive now

York

I like the occasional visit but there is absolutely not a chance I would want to live there. I've lived in York for 6 years now and that's about as city as I'd like to get (it doesn't really feel like a city). I'm a northern country lad at heart and much of London and its culture just seems alien to me, more so then when I visit foreign cities.

I dance all over London and there have been fatalities everywhere.

I travel all over the world and to some very dodgy places and never seen anything like that. Guess I’ve been lucky In my 48 years. All you would see around my area is yummy mummy’s in Birkenstock’s and hummus eating hipsters.

I think you are looking at the wrong thing - two men were stabbed in broad daylight and a section 60 authorizing stop and search powers over the whole area was put in place overnight 'due to the serious nature of the incident'.

I think it's more you burying your head in the sand than me scaremongering to be honest, the whole of greater London has a serious problem with knife crime.

...Up on the Downs

Duh....the PERCENTAGE of knife crime in London is double, treble and up to quadruple that of other areas of the UK.

If some of you feel safe - great, but don't deny what's going on, other people's kids are dying on the streets on a daily basis, I have personal experience of hysterical mothers coming to rescue their son from pursuit by a gang of school kids fer crying out loud, followed by no fewer than 3 blue light cop cars screeching in to my festival site - they certainly take such daily occurances VERY seriously as potentially life threatening, even if you deny them. That was in a very yuppie area.

No ghettos?? Are you KIDDING??? There are vast swathes of London that belong to one ethnic group or another, if you drive through it, you can see it clearly. No way I would get out of the car in some areas without my ex-heavyweight boxer friend with me!
