Why do sent messages & profile disappear without being read or deleted ?

If someone deletes their profile all messages disappear also if messages have remained unread for 28 days they are automatically deleted by the system

I’ve had over 1000 unread and I’ve managed to go through and read them all...

Ah ok, not sure why this happens to me then. A few times the messages have neared the 450 mark and when I have logged back on it will show 50 unread, the rest have vanished.
