"I should be reading aircraft pilot manuals (I’m a FlightSim nut), but can’t seem to motivate myself. A book I would recommend is Dhalgren by Samuel Delaney. It’s a strange sci-fi novel that messed my mind up for a while. " Aircraft pilot manuals sound pretty dull to me . I'm going to the library next week to see if they've got any of the suggestions on this thread. Thanks for yours

"I love the C J Sansom books, about a Tudor lawyer who gets caught up at the edge of the politics of the time. I recently read a Discovery of Witches which was quite good. If you like history try the St Mary's Chronicles - Just One Damned Thing After Another is the first - I've cried laughing reading those. And if you like crime, have you read the Helen Grace books. They're a bit different. " I know you said one but... Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series - a brand new Met cop who finds out he's got hints of magic and joins the department to fight magical crime. Another hilarious one.

"Any recommendations for somebody who's only ever read 1 book in his life but now has so much friggin time on his hands. Should be interesting " Read the wolf of Wall Street, best book I ever read and you’ll miss it when it’s finished. The way the duchess is described in it will have you falling in love with her without ever setting eyes in her.

"I've got in a bit of a rut with my reading recently. What are you all reading and what one book would you suggest to another person?" If you like dark thrillers, I can't recommend enough Val Mcdermid - Mermaids Singing. It's the first book in the Tony Hill series that became that dreadful Wire in the Blood, TV program. Don't judge the books by that.

Try one called A Place of Execution by the same author instead. Sounds a more gruesome title, but isn't and its a stand alone great story. That way, you'll know her style and decide if you want to read more. Enjoy
