Does it really work?

My daughter just trapped her finger in the cupboard door and had tears streaming down her face (bless) but soon as i kissed it better she stopped.

Yes it works because its physical mother to child contact.

No matter what pain, be in physical or mental, a hug from someone you know without doubt loves you unconditionally will make you feel better. It worked as an adult with my mum.
