I think it's an emotive subject and needs to be handled carefully.

But it's always good to talk.

I also know of people who have abused it, in order to get time off work and doctors are too scared not to give them a sick note. The genuine cases need more assistance, I am not denying that.

Everyone has mental health, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. It's not up to anyone else to decide if you are genuinely struggling!

Unfortunately there are so many cuts to the NHS that the system is failing! If you can talk to someone about how you feel sometimes that’s half the battle!

You got to wonder what’s going on for someone if they are actually doing that, somethings out of kilter.

Ive struggled for 25 years taking anti depressents to be told your on the wrong meds and its more serious than you think. Im now having to struggle with withdrawal symptons from these meds while they switch meds. Its a nightmare, doing and saying things that isnt me, totally out of character. Suicidal thoughts, wanting people to understand when they dont, last weekend was my lowest and i finally feel ive turned a corner and theres a light at the end of that tunnel x

Having a parent diagnosed with Munchausens, it’s a minefield.

I disagree with their diagnosis but want nothing to do with her so just leave them to it.

Anxiety and mild panic attacks seem to be troubling me again

It's a shame and it's frustrating when you think you've got them licked and then WHAM! another bout

They always come as a proper kick in the goolies

Yep I've had bad attacks since my teenage years , few years ago was sat on top of a bridge got pulled down by the police took to the police station locked in a cell as they couldn't get any help for me , they were amazing the next morning I went home and the two police men took turns coming around to mine daily to see if I was ok and to chat , true heroes , took me Five months to get any professional help , now I can feel when I'm getting low and I try so hard to fight it by exercise and sleeping , last week I had bad thoughts again but it only lasted a few days , work was stressful and I let shit get to me , so many people have mental Health problems . We live in a hard world now

It's not just women who sometimes need someone to talk to.

As a sex we men are useless whether it's pride showing weakness or in my case pretending nothing is wrong until it's to late

That's why talking about it is so important.

I think mental health needs to be normalized, however I do think it is abused. As a whole, I think it is a societal issue. We are a proud nation...and I think somtimes that pride gets in the way logic.

It is nice to see the Health & Safety Executive get on board, they now want companies to have something in place to deal with workplace stress.

The company gave training to us recently, it is only a start but nice to know it us there.

Everyone has mental health issues of some type. It is a spectrum and where you are on it depends on many different things. Some people are great and can continue with a normal life, others can fight it and carry on them there are people who suffer long term. It is wrong of anyone to judge, just because person A can cope doesn’t mean person B can cope in the same way.

The NHS services being cut is driving more and more people to suicide.

Example. Part of the Country I live, if you ring any helpline saying you feel suicidal they will tell you to go to AnE. On arrival you book in, when you are seen you are then taken into the AnE dept and told to sit on a chair in a corridor. In _iew of the AnE staff. You can not leave, police will be called if you try. Want a smoke? Need security escort. You wait there up to 6 hours till a member of the crisis team arrives. They talk to you no more than 10 mins and eventually tell you to go home have a hot bath and a cup of tea. That’s it, no follow up, no referral nothing.

That is simply not good enough

Being of my parents generation for me you just get on with it as it could be much worse. Maybe it’s a bit too soft nowadays and with my own mental attitude towards it. Which means it can be difficult to understand the small amount that really need help.

Try and live every day to the best you can, celebrate the great days and on your low days reach out to family or friends, they will care and want to help.

Good luck to all who live with mental health concerns. Everyone deserves to be happy.

OP, thanks for raising this in a neutral way. I think getting men to talk about mental health is important, not just because men have higher successful suicide rates but because not admitting to problems leads to relationship breakdown and other problems. Break the cycle.

Men, have a look at CALM.

My ex and I both suffered a couple of years ago terribly when our child passed away. Zero help, zero support. We both went through hell in different ways but for me personally, once I began to accept it, i put all my energy into changing things for parents in the hospital involved so others had help. I'm glad to say their policy changed and a year after I'm in a much better place.

Take time you need and get help in whatever way is best for you xx

Sorry to hear that. I've been on anti depressants for years. Two years ago I was given anti psychotics as well and last year I was put on a waiting list to get seen by the ADHD clinic, I'm still waiting to be seen.

Have you tried doing some form of exercise? That's helped me the last few weeks. I find when I exercise everyday I feel on top of the world. I know it's hard to get motivated when you're down, I sometimes have to force myself knowing I'll feel better for it

Agreed it’s a great think to get ppl talking. Not just men but females as well. Mental Health is a horrible thing to live with and I can not even begin to say what it is like.

Waking up wishing you never had. To scared to leave your house because you fear everyone will do you harm.

It’s very easy for people to say reach out, but when you have hit rock bottom you honestly feel A that no one cares and B I’d they do you don’t want to bother them.

It really is a very lonely place to be. My last r/ship broke up because of mental health. I was in a bad place and she would use it against me or even invent things I was meant to have done.

My inbox is open to ANYONE suffering with mental health issues

Yep, unfortunately.

It’s a tough battle, but day by day. Even hour by hour.

Mental health services in Ireland are dire with all the cut backs and the volume of people suffering is on the rise daily. It’s sad and frustrating.

From personal experience it is sometimes easier to talk to someone with no connection to you.

If by talking to someone it helps them it’s the least I can do

On a mooch

It’s something that will effect everyone from time to time, whether they wish to admit it or not.

Unfortunately there is still a lot of stigma around it, it doesn’t mean you are crazy or indeed weak, as some perceive. So many things fit into the term “mental health” and you’d be surprised at some

We all have a bucket where we put our problems, whether they be personal or work related. We can normally handle one or more of these but sometimes lots of little things fill the bucket and it over flows.

People need to learn to reach out for help, there are so many organisations there to help you freely from talking on the phone or just texting if you prefer

As a Mental Health First Aider, it’s important I spot the signs of people I know changing in character and those, I don’t who are clearly upset. We are not here to diagnose but Assess, Listen, Give, Encourage, Encourage

It doesn’t take much time out of your life, however “are you ok?” could mean so much to someone

Most importantly though, just listen and don’t dismiss someone as being silly or telling them to just “snap out of it” or “everything will get better”.
