I (Luke) highly recommend going to see a nutritionist. That has worked wonders for me.

Basically, keep your carbs to the morning and make them slow-release like oats rather than bread. Eat plenty of protein to help keep hunger at bay. Eat high-nutrition food.

You can help by doing weights because increasing muscle mass increases the number of calories your body burns, including at rest.

Get plenty of sleep too. Kids have a habit of disallowing that one though.

Look into keto (google 'diet doctor') and maybe intermittent fasting like the 16:8

Purse friendly options for me are frozen veg, frozen fish and eggs. A lot of vegetarian substitutes are also high protein and cheaper than meat. We quite often eat vegetarian burgers (quorn or linda McCartney) without buns, garlic mushrooms, broccoli, green beans, peas, cauliflower with a little cheese, vegetable curries, veg chilli. Taco bowls are good when you put all the taco fillings into a bowl rather than a tortilla shell. Tinned tuna isn't too expensive. I often had tuna mayo in a romaine lettuce leaf for lunch. Stir frys are good if you bulk the noodles out with bean sprouts and make sure the sauce isn't a high sugar one.

Food prepping can also help make things cheaper as you can buy and cook in bulk.

Download an app called myfittnespal and start tracking what you eat. If you have no idea how many calories you are eating in a day then you don't stand much chance.

You can still eat pretty much what you want, as as long as you're in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. But usually the stuff like chocolate, pizzas etc are high impact foods but don't really fill you up that much.

And ignore these fad diets, yeah you shift weight quick but they aren't sustainable.
