My nan’s spare room.

It’s that time of year when people go off on their travels, or to family weddings or just for days out.

Where’s August going to find you?

I’m going to be in Blackpool this weekend and then a home bird for the rest of the month.

You can go cockling that is of course trampling up and down on the wet sand until the cockles come up to the surface.

Try the potted shrimps too, they’re gorgeous.

Seen in far off places

Other than the routine rigours of work, and time spent at home, Southern France and Dubai play a part in my August schedule

"Cockling in Morecambe... remember what happen to the Chinese pickers ... don’t do it "

I think they were doing it on a commercial scale in the middle of the bay.

I’ve managed to survive many hours of it. Morcambe would be dull without a paddle.

Visit Grange-over-Sands, and find Humphrey Head. Beautiful views over Morecombe Bay.

And, Humphrey Head, is, allegedly, where the last wild wolf in England, if not UK, was hunted and killed.

Barrow-in-Furness is not too far, take the ferry to Piel Island.

Just completed an 1800 mile 3 week motorbike trip through Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Norfolk and the Sales before returning home to Ireland. Fantastic to just explore quiet small corners mostly away from all the tourists.

Yesterday morning, I met a friend at Manchester Piccadilly

The plan?

There wasn't one

We'd check the departure board for the next half hour and then book a ticket to somewhere we agreed on

Long story short, we had a lovely day out in York

We had a great walk round, some lunch, a couple of drinks and a couple of treats from the shops

The weather was perfect, the streets were busy, the atmosphere was fun filled

All in all, it was a great day out
