So, I’ve recently bought a MacBook Pro and thought I’d go for a change from the usual windows. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

But, bloody hell. It’s hard to get my head around it.

Anybody else had this issue? Or know their way around a MacBook?

Apple machines are gorgeous and when you get used to it you will like it but nothing can beat a Windows machine

Thing is u always comparing it to windows and think it works the same

I got a idiot guide book really helpful or load off online guides

Yup. But then years later I had to switch back to windows and it seemed soooo awkward after getting used to the Mac.

I found it useful to just have websites bookmarked that indexed shortcuts etc. Things I’d often look up otherwise as getting used to the new OS/interface.

They have one on sale at Curry's currently £799 (2017), I'm tempted as I need a new laptop, but I'm on Android for my phone. Although I still have a iPhone 6s as a burner. So not sure what to do, always been on windows ?

I’m just trying to figure out how do I find all the softwares, where things are saved, is it on the MacBook or the iCloud? Going to have to spend some time and learn to use this.

And somehow, my phone is connected to it. How do I separate all that? I can’t have my laptop being filled with (

Trying to start a project and I can’t be having my penis suddenly popping up.

Bought mine about 6 years ago and haven’t looked back. Bloody love it!

The new operating system may take a week or so to get your head round but it’s so much cleaner and more intuitive...you’ll be sailing in no time. Stick with it!

Well, it sounds like it shouldn’t be too difficult to get used to. So, I’ll stick with it.

Don’t think the usual copy and paste buttons and shortcuts work on here will they?

I’ve been a MAC user for 15 years, love them. Message me with your issues. Top tip, cmd and spacebar shortcut, then type the program you want to launch it will find it for you.

Use command instead of control for copy and paste etc.

Apps you can get from the App Store or download them... To see the programs you have installed already you can also press the launcher button (have you got one with or without a touchbar?)

If you say your phone is already connected I'm assuming your on an iPhone, it links your iCloud stuff by default. Easy enough in system settings to unlink though.

I have both a mac and a Windows machine. Love them both.

I have a MacBook pro and a windows laptop...

Windows laptop is under the bed collecting dust... says a lot!

Mac's are so easy to use, they just do what they need to do.

I have installed word excel and powerpoint on my Mac, mainly for ease of sending documents to people as I forget to format into windows friendly and forget windows cannot open none windows docs!

The help function on a mac is very helpful or just google what you need to do.

The only annoying part, the location of the @ symbol... I spend ages looking for it when using a Microsoft device!

Is there anything in particular you are having issues with?

Mac short cuts are so easy:

cmd and S - Save

cmd - P print

cmd - c copy

cmd - p paste

I moved from windows to mac book pro in 2009 and NEVER looked back. That first one lasted me till 2017, and it performed brilliantly until the end. And I sold it on eBay for £400 which went towards my new mac book pro! So they aren't actually as expensive as people think - they last loads longer than windows and you can actually sell them on for a decent price if you look after them!

Yes, it's a little strange until you get your head around it, just give it a couple of weeks and use the shortcut tips in previous posts.

Enjoy! My mac book pro is my baby! Love it!

You can buy lots of variation of hard drive. Previously you couldnt use external hard drives that were not compatible with mac. Cause was mac only! Now you can use almost any hard drive and download software to use them (most as some arent compatible but you have a lot of choice). Or buy apple hard drive but cost so much that arent worth it..like a macpro itself lol

I do have an external hard drive that I use for some of the software of my work but I just get concerned that, some programmes by default want to get saved in the hard drive as opposed to the external hard drive....if anybody knows a way to bypass this without screwing up the software that you want to download, I’m open to suggestions

I’m so used the windows OS that it’s just a pain to relearn everything.

It works better on the native hard drive unless you connect the external hard drive through very fast connections. It still works, and still can enjoy, depends what you use it for. If you do heavy video editing, then is recommended to have a larger native capacity and then transferring the product over the external hard drive

Erm which Adobe things do you think need converters? Adobe products have always been Mac comparable, in fact not only compatible, specifically written for Mac. It's less of an issue now but not that many years ago windoze was just horrible with creative suite.

Another Mac friend here. Stick with it, it really is better. Having said that, I work with Microsoft Office on my Mac as I like it more than Pages and Keynote. Best of both worlds
