lake district in bad weather

Going to Windermere tomorrow for a few days with my daughter, looking like the weather is going to be a lot of rain, so what can you get up to in the bad weather in that area ?

I would say a lot depends how old your daughter is and what kind of things you enjoy.

We’re going to the lakes in September and on our list of things to do is a visit the the lakes gin distillery and also Beatrix potter museum

Everything, just in wet weather gear. Don't do the tricky walks unless you know what you're about.

I was up there a few weeks ago and had a great walk to Beacon Tarn with 3 different weathers in the course of a 2 hour walk.

Honestly, it rains a lot there. Put some wellies on, a mac and just carry on as usual. It'll make the tea and cake stops feel even more worthwhile. Definitely visit the Beatrix Potter and the pencil museum.

There is a boat tour thing on Windermere. I haven't done it but it is a lovely view from the water, even when it's raining and misty.

Not sure how old she is but there is an aquarium at Lakeside, bottom of the lake and this is also where you can take a trip on an old steam train. You can can either drive or get a boat down to it.

The right place

Just get out and walk, it won’t be cold and a bit of rain can be refreshing. If the really high peaks are in cloud then stick to some lower routes.

Shopping in Kendal or Penrith

Maryport is lovely

Grange over Sands is nice

There are 3 New Balance factory shops in the area if she likes her trainers

There is a gorgeous little cinema in Bowness

There are indoor pools in some hotels that you can use for a fee

Go to Ulverston for the Laurel and Hardy museum (check opening times, it's quirky).

There might be a show at the Coronation Hall too.

Although, Ulverston is choc-a-bloc with Buddhists at the moment so it's super busy.

Not a million miles away yes it’s wet but not cold if she’s adventurous there’s climb the mine at honister just past Keswick all under ground google it

Lancaster not that far vue cinema city centre nice old castle to look round and primary as well lol

there’s a trampoline park at Morecambe

Salt ayre leisure centre Lancaster has inflatable bouncy swim sessions all listed in there website

Avoid Kendal a bridge is shut on the one way system traffic chaos

There’s go ape at grizdale done that in rain it was ok

Grizdale forest has nature trail walks

It’s always raining. Loads to see and do just make sure you are well prepared for the rain. It’s really warm as well. Not much doing in Kendal but I’m not having any problems with the traffic. Think most folk are just avoiding the area. Brockhole is great. There’s a steam railway as well. Depends how old your daughter is

she is all grown up now 29 years old we want to go kayaking we might still do that if its not hammering it down with rain.

You could keep her occupied by giving her a map and asking her to find out how many lakes there are in the lake district.

I went dragon boat racing on Windermere in the pouring rain. I did a kayaking thing in Windermere in moderate rain. It was fine. I'm not at all hardy, either.

29 year old u can get a day rider for bus Think it’s the 555 service and do a pub crawl of the lakes fizzy tart bar in Windermere great

Do look at hoinster slate mine climb the mine they have outdoor via farrata it’s one of those wire bridges u walk on about 1000 ft up and rock climbing

There's the motor museum, aquarium, steam train, the boat rides have a roof.

Its still worth going even in the wet.

You can marvel at the ridiculous sized mansions on the lakeside.
