If your boss called you a twat would you be offended

What would you do about it

It’s happened to me today and I’m really upset about it and would, love to take it further but don’t know how

It was uncalled for

Just wondered if anyone else has been through the same thing

Xxx

I would take it further. No boss should speak like that to their staff. Did you have witnesses?

Hubbies boss called him something similar the other day....hubby told him he was a “slopey shouldered cunt” and before telling him how to do his job, he should KNOW how to do his job. Never went any further because boss knew he was in the wrong ..

No it wouldn't bother either of us. We both have called each other worse.

It was serious

I would normally laugh it off but my boss is a nasty piece of work anyway and as I’d like to keep my job I didn’t say anything back

Front up and just tell him to not call you a twat in future. You've a right not to be verbally abused in the workplace.

Depends on the context, how out of character etc.

However if it did make you uncomfortable and your boss is not somebody you could talk to about it and be understanding it made you uncomfortable then yes take it further.

Of course there is a case of "it was just a a name calling" the whole sticks and stones bullshit but you should never be made to feel uncomfortable in work, especially by a colleague

I was a called a cunt by one of my bosses around 20yrs ago and was mortified at the time. Over the years I’ve learned that cunt is a northern term of endearment and acceptance.

If your boss spoke the words with a bit of venom then yes you’ve got a solid case so long as someone else heard them say it. If it was spoken off the cuff and jokingly then I wouldn’t be worried about it.

I don't think that any of his family would back you up. Try and forget about it if you can. He has no right to bring you down in front of anyone x just think to yourself that there are lots of worse things he could have called you xxx

Depends on the context? Yeh but seriously go to this lovely person and tell them an apology is in order or you will take it further .....my first response would be "who the fck do you think your talking to" .....but an apology is in order here ....

I've had something similar recently with a shit boss. I reported it to HR and she got a warning for bullying, for many incidents. Now she's off long term sick. There are employment laws to protect people in the workplace. Don't stand for it. Best of luck x

I worked with a manager who called everyone wankers etc.. none of us took it to heart. It's how he was. If you're offended then don't put up with it. I wouldn't.

Go over their head and go to their boss, make a complaint. Dont feel bad about doing it or worry about consequnces that could befall you. I did that and was a huge mistake, i let a very idiot continue to be a bad idiot.

I had two managers and with one of them it wouldn't have bothered me as it was just his sense of humour and it was easy to take it as harmless banter but with my other boss I'd be unhappy about it as she was very serious.

It's all about how you feel and the context of the situation. It does sound like they have crossed a line if you say they are unpleasant. If you're comfortable enough I would speak to them about how it made you feel but if not can you contact HR? It's easier said than done when it's your job and income I know :/

For me I work in an industry which requires skin like a rhino so if I'd done something to deserve it I'd have to take it. If it was unprovoked I guess I would give back as good as I get

It obviously depends on your relation with your boss and if it was in joking manner or serious. If you find it offensive then you should simply rise official complaint to HR or grievance as no one should put up with it. Don't let anyone bring you down just because of superior work position, it's not worth it. Good luck sorting it out

I would take it on chin, it will only end worse for you unless you recorded context of conversation or have a witness

Context is important, if flippant and in humour I'd have a quiet word and say you didn't like being called that.

If it was part of a reprimand or criticism then definitely take it to HR and make it clear it isn't acceptable.

You deserve an apology either way and in the second case an assurance that it doesn't happen again.

That's disgusting. Nobody should be spoken to in that manner.

I would go and have a word. Explain that it's been on your mind since., and stressed you up.

Ask why they said it in the first place.

See if you get an apology.

Unfortunately only you can decide if you are in a position to take it further!

I hope you get it sorted.

The youth of today has come up with a brilliant word which covers a lot of hostile remarks as long as you say it first. "Whatever".. it's such a brilliant reply for many situations.

It would t normally bother me but as these little digs have been going in for 12 years I’m now at the end of my tether

He has a very changeable personality so never know what kind of mood he will be in

He’s a 70 year old fat captain Birdseye lookalike

Occasionally I have answered back but it just puts an atmosphere in the shop all day

If I could find another job I would be out if there

My very first job in what I think was my very first day, I made a mistake with an order. My manager said very loudly in front of colleagues and customers; "Omg, I can't believe you messed this up...how can anyone be as stupid as you!"

I've never forgotten that sentence, and vowed that day to never make anyone feel the way she made me feel... I also grew up a bit too
