Adding milk before this is allowed to happen cools the water and also coats the bag, making the brewing process less effective. Instant - the milk will lower the overall temperature meaning the coffee/sugar granules won't dissolve Brewed - Unless it's espresso (in which case you can't create wanky latte art any other way) it doesn't really matter but consistency, you heathen.
