Urgh just been looking at some gyms along the commute to home route and not a single one advertises their prices.

Instead you have to fill in an online form and wait for them to ring you to get any details.

So I done that with clear times for when I'm available for phone calls.

And they ignore it and call within a few minutes of me submitting the form.

And when I asked about pricing structures the answer is "book a slot and come in some time for a face to face chat and a tour".

I don't want any of that, I just want to know prices before I make any bookings.

So damned frustrating!

It's amazing how many organizations think they know you better than you do and assume it's acceptable to completely ignore what you have expressed. It's akin to abus and doesn't bode well for an ongoing relationship. Gyms became renowned for their heavy sales tactics, inflexible memberships, contractual terms, periods and strong arm pursuit of customers, if they dared to be human, with flexible needs. The newer range of gyms seem to reflect shorter-term contract lengths, such as 1 month minimum.

You're starting the right way, by considering those that are convenient... But they almost deserve to get no business, whilst showing such contempt.

Some gyms operate within a flexible gym purchase of a small number of sessions, meaning you get to try them without being subject to maximum sales brainwashing events. Once in, you may be able to learn from others what their terms etc are. We should not have to compensate for businesses we pay, for imposing customerantagonistic tactics!

And just had another call from them, this time a young lady.

Doing the whole "hiya, I'm X, come and have a chat at the gym with me, I'll take you on a personal tour and we can take your details.." routine.

Now, if I was a bored horny guy I'd be there like a shot because "omg a lady called me to personally speak to me.. She must be hot, Imma gonna go tap that!".

Thankfully I'm not that dumb.

I've asked her to send some basic price lists that fit my needs (evening use for one to two hours) on just the treadmill, bikes and crossfit trainers.

Let's see if such a thing turns up..

Try “hussle”, it used to be pay as you gym.

You can buy passes for any gym in your area on there with no contracts and a little cheaper than with the gyms direct

IME, any organisation which refuses to publish its rates are out to give you the hard sell by offering 'personal' face to face consultations. In other words, they'll be trying to get away with charging you as much as they can - which may well be dependent upon how gullible you are, or how confident you feel about negotiating. A certain well known national gym brand with a racquet sport association is notorious for doing this.

If there's a local FB group where you are you could try asking for recommendations of fairly priced gyms there

Submit a freedom of information request for their pricing structure and contract terms
