I went to Krakow poland last year for the christmas period, the market is great... typical nik naks but they have loads going off, great bars and chocolateers there. Its very magical feeling and very reasonable price wise

Id recommend the'braka 6 apartments' theyre 1 min walk to the square.. they go above and beyond its just stunning

Has anyone been to the one on York? Despite my general Bah Humbug I do quite like a Christmas Market. We're planning a weekend in York in December and hotel prices are already crazy so wondering if that's the reason?

If you fly to Frankfurt you could do Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Cologne and Bonn. All lovely.

Hamburg is also very good for Christmas markets as there are several spread across the city.

The one that is one the Reeperbahn has a definite adult element to it...??

Also... Not strictly a Christmas Market, but if you ever get the chance to visit Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia (USA) after thanksgiving, the whole town transforms into an idyllic Dickensian scene... Horse-drawn buggies, tankards of hot spiced cider and mulled wine, hand-crafted wreaths and garlands on every door, the scent of candles and soaps, handmade chocolates, freshly turned wood, and just out of the oven bread coming from all the various little artisan craft shops and kitchens... Completely authentic as no modern amenities, conveniences or signage are permitted in the historic town centre. Carollers wear crinoline dresses and bonnets, breeches and top hats, redcoats with tricorner hats patrol the paved roads on horseback, and taverns roast pigs on spits in their cavernous fireplaces while barkeeps and wenches ply tankards of ale. It's quite magical!
