Gary Smith, who tours maternity hospitals promoting the name Gary, said: 'We’ve already lost Alan, the last Ken is living in a shed in Farnborough and the Lees that were once at every party claiming they knew martial arts are increasingly rare.

So do your bit and name your next baby gary, ken, alan, dave or karen or persuade your friend to before we lose them forever.

What names do you think need bringing back to replace little baby Adidas

Who ever thought Gary was a good idea? Were names rationed during and after the war too?

You can’t bring back Gary, he’s in prison in Thailand.

It would be nearly as bad as calling your new boy Jimmy and buying him a saddle

Now that's the spirit I'm looking for, let me know your sales pitch because it's vital that you're successful in your persuasion of these mums to be.

Could I ask you to go as far as to push the gary name to baby girls or should we stick with Karen ?

I’ll probably stick to Karen, but you never know what the mood strikes. Here’s to hoping my quest will be successful and I’ll bring back the Gary’s and the Karen’s
