Lion King Remake

What are your thoughts? A good callback to the animated classic or a copy and paste cash grab?

There seems to be so little original stuff around these days. There are movies of existing comic characters, reboots and sequels. Is that just my perception?

Totally agree. Too many remakes. Was gutted when they redid The Running Man. You cannot replace Arnie like that...

I agree as Disney has churned out so remakes this year. It gives the impression that much like Hollywood, Disney has officially run out of ideas.

Seeing it tomorrow, just watched the animated original, so it's got a lot to live up to.

Most of these Disney remakes are cash grabs when the money stops Disney will stop making them, they are in the business of making money, but Disney are a pretty reliable for knocking out a good film remake or not.

To be fair it comes to a point when it's very difficult to be original. These days you are going to get remakes or variations of what came before.

Hell most of the Disney animated movies are not original to begin with, they came from fairy tales or folk tales.

As much as I love The Lion King it was stolen from a Japanese cartoon called Kimba the White Lion, and is basically Hamlet.

Remakes are fine if done correctly. A star is born has been remade 4 times I think and yet the newest is getting praise beyond belief.

The Disney remakes are mostly just a cash grab yes. Keep the essence and soul of the original but make it with remaking too.

Of all the Disney remakes I feel that it was the one that did not need to be remade (the original holds up so well) yet it has been the best one so far, and the best one to keep as close to the original as possible shot for shot (with a few changes in it)

I agree that some remakes can be good if done right like The Thing for example.

As for Disney remakes, some are ok, some are unnecessary and some can be downright terrible.

Indeed it was amazing.

A few more things fleshed out with a few characters. A few lines cut or changed that ruined a bit of it.

The music is just phenomenal.

I'd have preferred an almost shot for shot remake (though they definitely did it justice) though a few new additional scenes were great.

It looked stunning in Imax 3d

Beautifully done! Love the added scenes, loved the revamped Rafiki.

Just sat mesmorised by it, must of felt every emotion possible watching it
