You know, where I work I have the privilege to meet amazing people and tell their story. These people are usually old, they'll be quiet at first but after a bit of music and being allowed to feel comfortable they open up and tell you the most fascinating stories.

I was talking to an old lady, she’s 92, “oh, I worked in the family business and took it over when my parents died” “what was the family business?” “we owned a circus”

Everyone has a story, not everyone’s will be exciting, not all will be happy, most will be hard to hear, but If you get a chance to sit down with a stranger and just listen, you’ll be amazed at what you might find out about that unassuming old man and they’ll be happy that someone’s interested and will listen.

And the biggest take away I have from hearing these stories is who do I want to be, because it’s almost inevitable that I’ll be old, in hospital and left with nothing but memories, do I want to be the person who surprises you with the stories I have or the person with no stories and a head full of regrets.

I was a carer for a few years and I heard some amazing stories. Mainly ladies and what they did in WW2! Also one lady that wasn’t in the war but was left at home with no money and no support that ended up being a ‘Tom’ she was forced upon one night and one of her ‘regulars’ married her to make an honest woman of her when the incident ended in her being pregnant..... amazing what people tell you when they are old and lonely!

God help my carer’s and the stories I’ll come out with, I already shock most people i meet! Lol

London

Every Christmas I spend time with the Chelsea pensioners, amazing people with amazing stories. The stories are not just war related but the era they lived in and how things were done differently, fascinating if you are a geek like myself.

I love listening to people’s stories and telling stories. I could spend my life doing i. Fortunately I get to do it as part of my work and it’s also one of the reasons I enjoy socials.

I was lucky to spend time with a lady in her 90's who had lived an amazing life, she joined the RAF and was based in my home town 50 years before I was born and around 30 before it was even a town.

She had been to every corner of the globe and had so many stories to tell. It was quite humbling and made me think about what my stories will be and whether I should make more effort to have adventures.

As awful as the wars were, our grandparents had adventures that we couldn't even imagine didnt they. Loved the stories from my grandparents. I realise I wouldnt have much to impress with currently compared to their lives.

I 100% believe you could weave a fine tale.

The few good storytellers I’ve met recently have actually been in Dublin pubs. One of the reasons I love Dublin.

My stories have a ring of truth to them.
