I'm wanting to make a rack out of wood for a few empty spirit bottles.

I'm looking for a dark wood with the rings showing.

What wood would be best to use

Please consider I am a novice at this

Pine and burnish it; a very cheap option so it doesn’t cost the earth to have a few attempts. Pine is very easy to work with too for a beginner.

Burnishing is fun too. You scorch the surface using a blow torch and all the swirls and rings stand out clearly. If you overdo it you can sand it down a bit.

Burnishing is just a carpenters posh word for ‘giving it a hard rub’

Excuse me? Are you suggesting that my Sunday reading club is, in fact, a cover for a 2 hour and 8 minutes circle jerk wankathon?

Have you only just begun? Once you've done it will you be on top of the world? Whilst waiting for bits to arrive I bet you'll be thinking "please mr postman" and you'll be a superstar for doing something you've never done before

I live in Somerset. Of course I like them. They play live gigs in every single pub every single night so it’s hard to avoid them.

It’s like heaven, ain’t it just? Just with electricity too, these days. Ah, the sunny mendips of a Saturday afternoon stroll. Thems were the days, my friend, I’d thought would never end. Bloody Mary! Who sang that?!?!
