So how do I get even.....

Not anything remotely to do with swinging but here goes.

I've worked for a small family business for all my working life, worked really hard, probably for less money than I could have got elsewhere. I've been told more than once by the owner that I'll be looked after 'one day' and have been happy to carry on working hard and wait for my chance.

Six months ago, a new guy gets appointed as a manager to work alongside me.

I've heard of this guy, he's a real slippery fucker and I'm watching my back.

Despite my best efforts, after 2 months I'm reporting into him and he's making my life very, very awkward.

Cut a long story short, I'm now out, constructively dismissed but I actually quit because I couldn't put up with the guy.

He's now been made a director of the company and I'm gutted, angry, upset, you name it.

I can't sit around waiting for karma, where was karma when all this was going on?

I want to get even but how?

The thing is nothing you do will "get even" because you can't make anyone feel how you do.

The best thing is to be the bigger man and move on. If someone is deliberately hurting you then that'll bug them more, if they're not doing it deliberately and it's just a clash of personality then hurting them just makes you the bad one.

Best to let go of the anger rise above and decide what you really want to do with your life

Find their biggest competitor. Failing that, someone in their supply chain. I.e. a supplier or a customer.

Get a job with them. Exceed your own expectations and get the big break, without compromising your integrity and NOT actually badmouthing your previous employer.

And wait to see what happens. If the new guy is as back stabbing and shit as you describe, he will show his true colours. And you never know, the small business owners might crawl back and apologise!

Who are you trying to get even with?

The company?

Your long-standing boss?

The new guy?

All three?

The thing is, that as a company, they need to conduct themselves in a certain manner and, as an employee, so do you

If either party strays from that there may be a case for disciplinary proceedings, dismissal or tribunal

You are only giving your side of the story

The law often sides with the employee not the employer, so why aren't you seeking tribunal?

Is there more to this?

Are giving us the impression that you were the model employee whilst for the last few months you have been anything but?

Did the guy get the job you felt should have been yours?

Did you resent him for it?

Did your attitude towards your job change as a result?

If you feel aggrieved then seek professional advice. Follow the correct path, not revenge. Note everything that happened since the new guy came in!

The thought of a potential tribunal will be something they won’t want to go through!

A little story for you ...

For 13 years I ran a branch of a recruitment company for a guy

I was very successful, we were turning over 5 to 6 million a year just out of my branch

I helped to make him a pretty wealthy man and I too was well looked after

Then, back in 2013, as other areas of the business were struggling, he took the decision to sell my branch as a franchise

I was offered it, but couldn't afford what he was asking, nor could I raise the finance to buy it so I was out on my arse so to speak

'My' business was sold

It was a bitter pill to swallow. I felt let down professionally and personally

The karma?

The guy who bought it fucked it up royally - he had money but didn't understand the market

Within 15 months, it was in liquidation

Surprisingly, that didn't give me any satisfaction, in fact it made me really sad and still does to this day

I worked hard, I lived the job, blood, sweat and tears and I loved the guy I worked for as a friend

In the end, all that amounted to nothing

I have been into meet him recently and he apologised, gave me a hug, admitted his ego got the better of him, recognised he had let me down and even admitted to being in counselling

Again, no closure

No glee at karma

The whole thing was and still is, fucked up

It has affected me professiinally and now a job is just a job

I go in, do my hours and do my job

For that the company I now work for pay me money

That is it

That is the sum of our relationship

I have no emotional investment in either the job or the business

It is what it is

I am not bitter

It was a lesson learned

My suggestion to you is move on, look after yourself and shelve whatever bitterness you are currently harboring

If you are spiteful, find some Russian or Polish, they will beat him up for small price, or find a hacker who will sort his online stuff to your liking.

If you are not spiteful just move on let him enjoy his 5 minutes in spotlight, it will dim for him soon if he's like you said slipy creep

If you genuinely believe you were constructively dismissed speak to ACAS and see if you have a case for unfair dismissal. However it really depends what you want to get out of it, it would cause issues for your ex-employer, not the new guy, but it may be a way of getting a message across.

If not, then I would move onto bigger and better things

If karma exists as you suggest it does what happened to you was karmic retribution for something you'd done it'll strike again if you get revenge.

The best revenge is to live your best life. It's horrible what happened and if you genuinely feel that you were constructively dismissed take legal advice and pursue it that way but be warned it's a hard road with no guarantee of success.

Take some time to lick your wounds, get the best job you can.

OP read what Bussy says. Good advice. I've often found that karma has a habit of biting people in the arse. I've had a few chuckles in my life when feeling aggrieved, to see the arsehole that did it to me getting it back many fold. It does happen.

you don't it's real crap what's happened to you and my nephew had a similar situation, he's extremely intelligent he designed something and the company took his design as their own, so he went and took it back, he got a custodial sentence, so as hard as it is to have experienced this it's not worth retribution

I’m not sure legally you can do much as you quit. Personally as others say anger and frustration eats you up, the only one who is suffering is you.

The best karma is being successful.

Getting even as you call it will probably end up with you getting into trouble, it's never a good idea.

Instead, focus your energy onto bettering yourself you will feel much better for it too

Work for a competitor and compete against him and the family that run the business
