Play a sport and use gym/running as backup

Set a routine, find a thing that works for you. Don't be scared of lifting weights. Ask for help/ suggestions in a gym if you go.

Oh, and set goals. Not just appearance based ones.

Get a structured programme. For toning light weights high reps. As others say through something else in like swimming or cycling to break the repetition

Gym is good and remember to perhaps consider a sympathetic diet to aid exercise

Exercise is important, but what you eat is more important. I went Keto 6 months ago, best thing I ever did, lose fat, build muscle and much better overall health.

I joined a pure gym and their classes are amazing. I learnt how to squat properly and how to do deadlifts. They even taught us chest presses using a stepper. From what I've learnt in the classes I gained the confidence to do weights in the normal gym on my own. My gym has a separate area upstairs with mirrors and free weights which is great for us women when the main weights area is full of slightly intimidating super buff guys.

I’m going back tomorrow after a few months away from it and a lot of weight has piled on. Not bothered what I weigh tbh...always been heavy. When I was going regularly I toned up and felt great. I do classes as I find going in to the gym hard for many reasons (no motivation, all the beautiful people there etc.). Good luck. I will cheer you on C x

Tbh as someone who started lifting as a timid size 18/20: the serious lifters don't mind unless you're inconsiderate. The tossers are tossers. Don't be scared.

Yes I've never had anyone be nasty in the gym and a lot of people who are really into it are really helpful and supportive of new people. Also logically you know that most people are focused on what they are doing and not paying much attention to anyone else. However, logic doesn't always help with anxieties and a smaller, less exposed area of mostly women can be a lot more comfortable for many. However, I often find it's similar to the dance floor. The hard part is getting up there. Once you get up there and get going you're away!

Jump rope!

Obviously that alone won't give you what you need but as a way for general fitness, staying toned and burning calories it is one of the best ways to go about it.

What keto rules do you follow?

I did keto for a bit. I tried to stick to under 50g of carbs a day. I mostly ate foods less than 5% carbs with small amounts of foods between 5 and 10% carbs. I cooked in butter and used a lot of caeser salad dressing and mayonnaise as I missed my ketchup haha. It was tough giving up sweet things but I felt great!

I’d just make sure the rounite is something you like, nothing worse forcing yourself to do it, find a exercise/ circuits programme you like and stick to it for a few weeks you’ll see results!

My advise would be remember the exercise you do only accounts for about 20% of your result the other 80% is food. I would go have a body analysis done in boots so you have a start point. Book an appointment with a personal training who will then be able to point you in the right direction for what you want to achieve plus a food plan.

Good luck OP and have fun

Were you doing it to lose weight? How many calories a day?

It confuses me.

I lost about 5 pounds in 6 weeks but I was going the gym too. I wasn't counting calories, just my grams of carbs.

I mean as in I was likely gaining muscle weight. My shaped changed enough for people at work to visibly notice anyway.

I originally started Keto because of severe acid reflux, everything else is a huge bonus.

Ailments removed with Keto:

Acid reflux

Constant mid level cough

Bloating

Sluggishness

Fat

Hunger

High estrogen

Brain fog

Slow healing

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

I even put on muscle in the first month with no exercise. Lost 2 stone of fat in 6 months, recently joined gym and putting on more muscle. I will live the rest of my life in this manner and highly recommend it, always do your own thorough research though, plenty of info online.
