Done the fringe a few times..

Where to stay... Look at airbnb for places.

Enjoy the street acts... Literally spent a day watching and laughing and barely walked 1/2 a mile.

If you do want to see certain things then get there early, ques start building fast, especially if it's a well known act.

The atmosphere is amazing, go an enjoy it.

For food, eat off the beaten track, places near the castle hike prices up for it and on drink. So a walk away can save you a lot of money in the long run

Yes airbnb seems the way to go! I’m guessing I will leave my car parked at the apartment as city centre will be mad with traffic?

The street acts sound amazing from what I have read. Would like to discover a new indie or folk band to be honest. Love live music.

Thanks for the advice about the food!!

Even with airbnb look for places a short walk to the main strip... With it lasting all of August you want to be able to get your car out of there.

Also with mentioning the roads are a giant ring road to some extent around Edinburgh, so definitely say nav out of there.

Some do have parking so do check before you book.

When I went last the street food vendors were good for quick bites but they are few and far between.

It also depends on you really, I did a rucksack with a packed lunch and drink to carry with me (again prices hiked up in places)

The city centre is a no go for driving, most areas around it have restricted parking too. The bus service is great though, most routes run 24/7.

There's plenty going on around the city to keep you amused and there are always offers on tickets. I'd suggest checking out venues and making sure you have time between shows if you have booked, it might not seem far but the amount of people really slows you down.

I’ll check the busses out for sure! Thanks for the tips on ticket offers. I’m guessing it’ll be best to queue early for live music events!

Wander around the city as much as possible. Edinburgh is one of the best cities in the world. During the festival, there's a great atmosphere.

Walk up Arthur's seat - great bit of exercise and views.

If you like drinking, then try late night comedy venues.

Book your tickets as early as you can, as highly popular acts sell out quickly.

Familiarise yourself with the city and where all the venues are. Assume that traffic/parking will be awful, as the city will be so packed, thus better to get about via alternatives.

Accommodation is difficult, so research and book quickly. I always stay with friends.

Read show reviews every day, if you've got spare time for seeing extra stuff: it's good, as you'll not typically know what's going to be great. If shows get one or more amazing reviews, expect the tickets to become much harder to get. Friday and Saturday night shows are especially popular, as you've got so many more people who are available to see them.

It's worthwhile seeing the outskirts of Edinburgh too, as many neighbourhoods are each unique and interesting.
