Continue here. I am, but I am having a rest day today, what about you? I am doing a full body workout and I do that 3 times a week and I will continue to do the summer shredding for 1 month more. I will eat maintenance calories now which is 2700kcal a day, how do you motivate yourself to go? I watch motivational videos and one of my favourites are 3d abs with the great dane https://youtu.be/OmGfHk46

Manchester (she/her)

I do an upper/lower split on weights with cardio and things I'm doing to try to prevent injury. My goals are mostly health and function based and I could probably stand to watch my diet a bit more.

Hete is something from my other thread:

"What workouts are people doing to get ripped for summer? "

No workout gets you ripped that comes from diet , sorry , and you will need a 500 cal a day deficit for a week to.lose half kg of fat"

That is right, it is all about the diet, 80% is diet and 20% gym, a full body workout is a good routine

I do full body workouts and some cardio but time limited. So I tend to work different muscle groups on different days. The variety keeps it interesting. I’ll be there again tonight

My aims are mainly remaining healthy and reasonably fit. I am trying to shed a few lbs too.

As it happens my cut regime is

Hour long full body 5 times week , 8 exercises 1 extended set each 15 reps of 90% of max

Prevents muscle atrophy, promotes positive hormone balance, even on quite a harsh calorie deficit if added 2-3 kg of muscle in 5 months

Signed up last week, loving it! I go and am planning on going 3/4 days a week. Best thing I did was switching to Keto 6 months ago, long list of health improvements.

YouTube motivation: Keto info; Dr. Berg. Workout; various. Can't beat a bit of Ronnie Coleman to pump me up. YEEAAHHH BUDDYYY!

I generally do not advise keto for beginner trainees or beginner fat loss strategies, there is simply no need to go to the extreme of cutting out one third of and entire macro group

Carb reduction however is almost always beneficial and will reap almost all the benefits of keto without its numerous downsides x

Keto is low carb not zero carb. I did weeks of research before starting, the human body doesn't need carbs, so if consuming keep low. Keto has vastly improved my health, and I would always recommend to people, unaware of any negatives of it, even if there were some low level, pros far outway the cons.

I know exactly what keto is , iv been using it correctly for over 25 years

My advice stands and its backed by a vast number in our industry

Keto is less than 50 g carb per day

I advocate 100 to 250 depending

One vast reason is vitamins and minerals that complex carb foods contain

And as for need , indeed the body does require glycogen to perform well , ketones work , have a time and place but should not be utilised as a fixed for life nutrition strategy

I'd be curious if you have taken the test and know if your in ketosis, gym performance is always affected by ketosis and low glycogen

I'm very experienced and trained to be highly fat adapted , inc day long mountaineering with zero food in ketosis

It's an advanced strategy, should not be used by beginners first steps into lifestyle changes !

You said Keto cuts out an entire group, which it doesn't.

100-250g carbs a day! Wtf crap are you eating, never a need to go that high. You can get all the vitamins and minerals from from various sources and still remain at around 50g. Nutrient dense fruit and veg which is the vast majority of carbs on a good diet, never needs to get anywhere near those numbers. You sound like you're full of shit.

More and more research actually backs Keto, it's not an advanced strategy, it's the logical choice. One should research both sides of the argument vigorously like anything, then when done naturally one will be in favour of Keto, it's how we're supposed to eat. As for these malnourished Vegans... Pfff.

What bit of iv been using Leto for over 25 years did you miss , in fact sadly for a while I promoted it

I'm currently keto , have been for a month with precise refeeds, and I'm on less than 20 grams a day have the urine strips to know where I am

The body can hold approx 500 g carbs which form glycogen, this holds 3 extra grams of water

ketones do not replenish glycogen levels

Glycogen fills the muscles , aids hydration, and improves athletic performance

These are facts

Where did you miss I agree with ketosis but not as a beginner strategy or as a life long one , it's for punctuation

But no as a beginner who has read a couple of articles, you keep doing what you are doing , and I'll promote healthy balance, understanding moderation and a step by step achievable by all mantra

Hmm

You are trying to advocate that 50 g is perfect for all humans , ok you're welcome to your opinion

Most studies suggest , carb requirements are individual and would depend on physical activities, their corresponding heart rate

Mine is 100 ish g

My daily activities are such I burn approx 400 cals of glycogen per day , I aim for below 50 reserves

Mr monkey and shag will need different, a sprinter, gymnast a cyclist

Fact is over approximately 150 watts or 120 130 140 heart rate , the glucose requirement goes up

Ketones do not and cannot keep up with the high demand ,their primary function is to produce a carbohydrate like fuel for the essential systems that do not use the fat metabolism pathways

And as for fiber , its highly unlikely that those on ketosis will have enough , although we can survive with little ,humans thrive perform better , and gut forna is better balanced

After all that

Today too hot for me in the gym , thus a 5 km walk this lunchx

I disagree with not needing higher carbs.

Tried keto, no good, strength massively effected, gym performance was poor.

Currently around 400g per day is the sweet spot for me, majority of it pre, intra and post work out.

My average week over the past few months...

Swim 400 lengths of 25m pool per week (3 swims)

Cycle 5-8 hours a week.

Run on average 3 times a week treadmill & road.

Total 11-14hours exercise per week

Although this week is a rest week because I have an iron man on Saturday

2.4 mile swim

112 mile bike

26 mile run (marathon)

Expect it to take about 13.5 hours ish.

All of what you've said has been debunked, lot's of info out there. You're very arrogant and up your own arse, and suggesting I would completely change my eating habits after reading a couple of articles is plain stupidity.

I thoroughly researched and listened to many people advocating many different things, I even listened to Vegans and bullshiting 'experts'. I made the right choice with many different health benefits and much better overall health because of Keto. There is no perfect diet, but Keto is the closest and most logical.

Ultimately the best advice for anyone is do your own research

I’ve been 2 1/2 times this week. First 2 times I was away with my FWB in a hotel. So on the first day, I just did 30 minutes on the treadmill and 7.5 minutes on the rowing machine, but no weights. Second day, I did the treadmill and rowing machine and work on my upper body with free weights. Today, I did the treadmill, rowing machine and upper body again. I may go again tomorrow and work on my lower body with weights.

I work up quite a sweat presently in this heat and try to go as early as I can.

OK, so not a gym bunny, I do my own exercise at home and outdoors, so I hope I can post on this thread.

I've been a runner for years, average of 20 miles a week, but have totally lost my mojo in the last year.

Part of it is being too busy, but part of it is that I started kettlebell (KB) training (I'm up to 20kg double swings, 16kg single hand swings, and 12kg snatches - 300 a day) and found that I got the same results with half the time of running.

A PT friend has advised that KB training will cover cardio and strength training.

Anyone fitness aware to advise, please?

x Niki.

My understanding is that whether you're covering cardio or strength (or both) depends in part on the intensity of the exercise (number of reps/ amount of effort in a certain time period). But my understanding is extremely limited.

I hadn't been to the gym all week because it's too damn hot and the a/c at my little gym isn't much good. Finally made myself go and sweat it out last night, only to drop a dumbbell on my finger after half an hour. It's a nice purple colour now.

Been going to gym for 6 or 7 weeks.

Always had, imo, a good figure 6 foot 42 36 38 weight 12.5 stone. Pull ups zero. Diet healthy normal. Been the same for decades without any special effort.

6 weeks later 44 37 39 13.4 stone. Pull ups 5. Eat like a horse. My wife is not keen on my muscles, tough i am.
