I remember Saturdays

I had to stay in and 'dog sit' whilst my parents went out for the afternoon

They came back about 4.30pm

We had a 'cold tea' - fresh bread, cooked meats and salad and watched the Brookside omnibus together

Then it was bath time for me and out on the beer by about 7.30

I used to roll back in about 2pm with a kebab

Mum used to wait up saying she couldn't settle til she knew I was in

The dog used to wait up because she wanted a share of my kebab

That might be more like 30 years ago, but still fond memories of simpler and happier times when my parents were both in good health

30 years on the carer roles have switched somewhat, the dog is no more, Brookside is no more, but they still have a 'cold tea' on a Saturday

It's quite sweet in a way x

Two stars to the left and keep going.

I was in the Army serving in Northern Germany. So only had one TV channel (SSVC) which was supposed to be the pick of the best from everything available back home. Unless of course your learnt the language (like I did) then you had a few more. Good times though.

Twenty five years ago I was awaiting the birth of my eldest in just over two weeks time.

We had all become Irish for the summer as they were the only "home" nation to make the World Cup Finals

We used to watch Children's SSVC before we went to evening scoof just because Debbie the presenter was FAF. They used to have a dog puppet with her too. One time in christmas week (we suspect they may have had a christmas lunchtime drink or two) the dog puppet was biting Debbie's huge boobs!!

Back in 1985 or 86 I remember coming home one Friday or Saturday night late, certainly after midnight, kebab and chips in hand.

Decided to put the telly box on to watch something before my pit. I groaned, a bloody kids film at 1am nothing on the other channels (yes 4 of them) so I'd give it half an hour.

If I'd have had Netflix or Prime, no way I'd have watched that film but it's now in my top ten and I can understand why it was appropriate for that time of night as well. The film ....

My earliest memory of what year it was is 1995 because I bought my first cd, football sticker book and saw my first adult anime "3x3 eyes"/terminator 2

I saw a few United games with my dad and Rochdale games with my grandad.

I remember the "cotton eye Joe" song and Bevis and butthead

My friends all had saga but I was sophisticated with an amiga...which I was playing before my earliest memories.

"What's "jobfinder"?"

Whilst you were alive when it was on, you'd never have seen it as it was on about 5am? It was basically a load of text pages with job adverts on that stayed up for about a minute each whilst some dull as dishwater "music" played in the background....
