Manchester (she/her)

Starting off the back of some PMs yesterday.

Do you wear it? How much? What style? Preferred colours/ finishes/ styles/ brands? Do you enjoy it, or feel you have to?

(yes, guys who don't wear makeup, we know you don't wear makeup )

I love makeup!

I've been a professional makeup artist for over a decade on and off so there's very little I've not tried. I love to play and try new and unusual looks!

I have my favourite brands for certain items but i like trying new things

Yes I wear it all the time but quite minimal and I rarely wear foundation because I have the feel on my skin.

I like pinky colours on my lips and green for my eyes with brown mascara. Blusher is usually browny pink.

I am currently grappling with highlighter and wing eyeliner for the 'big occasion'

Love make-up.

My day look is normally very simple. In the summer I use tinted moisturiser, a bit of mascara, blusher and lipstick.

If I'm going out, I go for a smokey eye look with nude gloss lippy.

I use estee mascara, blusher and lip gloss, charlotte tilbury foundation on the rare occasion i wear it!

N x

I've only gotten into it relatively recently after many aborted attempts. I've hit my stride and increasingly know my style and what I enjoy. Most of what I do is a variation on a similar theme. Emphasis on the eyes, sometimes lips as well (I have features that mean I can do both), minimal cheek/ skin makeup. It usually looks fairly light on. I rock my pale and only use a (not so orange) bronzer for a minimal contour.

No, I don't really wear it, nor do I feel I have to, nor do I want to very often. I don't like the feel of too much on my skin and perfumed products can oft make me feel a bit bleurgh. I quite like the "look" of Huda and Dior makeup. I own a couple of Mac lipsticks, some Chanel mascara but vaseline works for me.

Which can be a bit of a shame I think. I went to Charlotte Tilbury for a makeover before a work event and she worked magic. I looked fucking hot, like a chubby lingerie model. I did think "if I could do this every day I'd be rolling in cock".

Bare minerals is a brand I met on QVC, literally crushed minerals/rocks. You buff the powdered foundation onto your face, not giving full coverage. Safe to use after skin treatments etc. Since then, lots of 'mineral foundations' have been launched, but few are as pure. You haven't got time really to explore before your big day, but maybe for the future

My daughter uses bare minerals and urban decay. Hers always looks nice, she does all that contouring stuff though and has about a million different brushes for each thing! I don’t have time for all that. One brush, bit of bronzer and I’m done

I do very light, very minimal contouring (the 3). It's my only use for bronzer, lol, I don't like looking too tanned.

I do have a silly number of brushes, but they're mostly for eyeshadow, which probably takes up half of my time putting on a full face.

Mainly max factor. I have a basic look (foundation, powder, blusher, mascara, lippy) that takes about ten minutes to put on, makes me presentable to the world That's about as far as it goes usually, occasionally i add some detail round the eyes.

I used to spend ages trying to do fancy eyes, perfect cheek bones, colour matching to my clothes... Life is too short though. And in any case there is only limited scope with the canvas i have to work on... Polly xx

Day to day I wear none due to eczema but when I go out I go all out with full war paint on Haha

I wear no7 tinted moisturiser and then the rest is what ever I see at the time.

I would like a professional to show me what looks best on me.

I love make up I just wish I was skilled enough to do it properly. Day to day I use a BB cream and some bare minerals powder, mascara and lipgloss or lipstick.

I'd love to be able to do winged eyeliner and highlighting etc but I just seem to be lacking that particular girly gene.

I've had my make up done properly a few times and I look like a different person. It's great!

I don’t wear it day to day.

When I do it’s just simple eyeliner, mascara and a slighter darker tint lipstick and if feeling exceptionally pale a light powder brush over the face

I love makeup, I have started using a powder foundation as it’s lighter on my skin. I use browns on my eyes but would love to be able to do a vampy purple/pink look but need more practice. I can’t do the flick eyeliner I shake too much and just use my trusty black eyeliner and mascara, then I use a bronzer on my cheeks to tone down my natural red cheeks. And a cerise pink lipstick. I keep saying I shall get a make up artist to come and do my eyes so I know what to do x

I absolutely adore make up and wear it on an almost daily basis, I love the artistry and the creativity that can be expressed and translated through it.

I also have dodgy sensitive skin, so therefore use clinique powder foundation, the other brands I use are benefit, revolution, nyx and I generally only spends lots on the necessary items.

Yes I love makeup and wear it daily pretty much. I usually keep it simple with a base to even out skin then highlighter, bronzer, brows, mascara and lipstick.

I don't like my face so makeup helps me to feel a little better about myself. I don't feel forced into wearing it. I am happy for people to see me without it. It's my way to relax in the morning and it's fun to get creative with different looks.

I wear make up most days. I’ll go quite minimal during the day, however tend to make more effort if I am going out at night.

Discovered the ordinary skin care range about 18 months ago and love their foundation, one bottle of their serum lasts me about 3/4 months and it costs less than £6! My favourite mascara is benefit and I’ll do my eyebrows with a fibre filler from Rimmel. I have so many lipsticks it’s unreal, anything from primark (which is surprising good!) to Mac.

On a side note, has any had dermaplaning (when they shave your face of all the dead skin and “peach fuzz”) done?

My Own Little World

If I'm lounging round the house I don't wear any, but I never leave home without some make up on, even if it just powder and eye liner.

"I wear make up most days.

"

The Ordinary are a gift from above. I barely break out on my face now thanks to some of their skincare.

I've not had dermaplaning done personally but I know quite a few women who have had it done who swear by it. I would love to give it a go.

I had it done professionally back in December and the results were amazing, however it was quite expensive (£50) so I’ve recently started doing it myself and the results are pretty much the same! Makes your skin so absorbent and make up looks so much better on your skin. Highly recommend!

Mr N pointed out that I won't even go out in the garden without lipstick on the other day. It's true although I hadn't realised it but I don't wear any other make up if I'm at home

They have a couple in London now. One in Covent Garden and one just outside Leicester Square.

But I love the Ordinary - brilliant skincare and affordable! What more can you want!

I love make up!! Mainly only wear it now when I'm off out as my skin started to play up when I wore it daily.

I tried to contour the other day looked like I had a beard!!

I tend to do foundation, highlight, bronzer. With a bold eye colour and lips of whatever takes my fancy.

I love bold eyes I've been working on rainbow eyes for pride!

I noted, which is why I said

Their lines are really confusing, but in store I could say, I want to do xyz, how do I do that? And they showed me stuff. They also tested some retinol on the back of my hand, which stung, so I got a very weak one instead of the one they were recommending. (you build a tolerance)

If you search ‘dermaplaning tool’ on eBay, there’s loads of options, I went for the cheapest I could see (as I was skeptical about doing it myself). Then when they arrived I watched a few YouTube videos of others doing it themselves. It’s very easy.

I used to use the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream. I got on really well with it. I think it’s SPF 30 and was very light weight. The coverage wasn’t great but I used to use it just to even out my skin if I didn’t want to go full on with foundation.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation (not the Coverage one) is SPF 15 and if you prefer a lighter coverage it might suit you nicely! The Coverage version is as the name suggests a full coverage one.

I hardly wear makeup. If I can be bothered it is normally just a slap of mascarra and lipstick. Use Urban Decay or Dior mostly, as I dont use alot I tend to go higher end as it lasts ages. Lipstick is either natural, light colours or really dark purples

Used to wear lots, now eyeliner and a bit of massaca.

However I think it key to be continually changing the application. There's winter weather make up, and then summer tones etc. Couldn't help but stare at a shop assistant in House of Fraser the other day. Sorry to say but she looked like a clown

A lot of Aldi stuff is too. Their highlighter is as good as Touche Éclat, their moisturiser is great and their hot cloth cleanser is as good as Liz Earle.

Aldi also do a dupe for the Pixie Exfoliating Toning Lotion, £3.99 compared to £18 and it’s pretty much exactly the same product. One of the best products for my skin. If you suffer from combination skin, enlarged pores and black beads I recommend it.

Does anyone know of any vegan/cruelty free brands that I've missed?

Urban decay

Kat Von D

ELF

Barry M

Super drug B range

GOSH

Revolution

Tarte

Too faced

Jeffree Star

These aren't all completely vegan but have some products which are.

Also best contour starter kit please? Last time I tried I looked like o had a beard

I think the thing about contouring is that you want it to be buildable, and so much stuff prides itself on being heavily pigmented. I use a No 7 bronzer to contour (it's not so orange it looks wrong) and in a layer or two it's not entirely clear I've put it on, it does look more like a trick of the light.

Illamasqua

Charlotte Tilbury

The Ordinary

NYX

All are cruelty free but I’m not sure about Vegan as that’s not something I personally look for.

The Illamasqua Gel Sculpt is AMAZING for contouring on Caucasian skin. It looks like a scary black stick but it’s very sheer in reality and buildable. Definitely the only one I use personally!

I'm currently using a Loreal one. It's white from the tube but goes on tinted. It's light and easy to wear with better coverage than some foundations I've tried.

I've also mixed it with a little foundation at night time which works well x

"Starting off the back of some PMs yesterday.

Do you wear it? How much? What style? Preferred colours/ finishes/ styles/ brands? Do you enjoy it, or feel you have to?

(yes, guys who don't wear makeup, we know you don't wear makeup ) "

I have intolerance to maskara and the rest of the makeup doesn't look right without it. For that reason I don't wear makeup every day and would only put some on a very rear occasion (maybe once or twice a year).

Yep definitely Cruelty Free.

CrueltyFreeKitty is a great site to verify the CF status of brands and they do update it if the situation changes - like when NARS sold out to China in recent years.
