Bit off topic but thought I’d see if anyone had any experience or advice really from being on working tax credit child tax credit and going over to UC. Also how it’s maybe effected you from going Pt to FT? I’m just a bit nervous but I currently pay close to full rent and I pay full council tax as it is I was curious if I’d be better off.

Knowing my luck I’ll be owing hmrc -£** per week.

I’m currently working PT Single house hold income with 2 children. Any advice from anyone would be great

Same here hun. I’m only working 16 hrs but I pay close to full rent (£60) pm I receive! Plus I pay over £100 council tax. So I was considering if it was worth going full time, also I’ve heard UC is good for some. I’ve done a calculation and I’m better off. But according to calculation I should be on me housing benefit and working tax.

I’m torn really as I’m sick of struggling as a single household income and want to work more but I’ll be penalised for it

How many hours do you work if you don’t mind me asking as you could be entitled to help with housing benefit and working tax credits

You will only go over to UC when you have a change of circumstance. Well that's how it's working here in the South West.

The job centre deals with new UC claims. If I was you I would try to make an appointment with them to talk it though. I went from working tax credits to UC about a year ago and have found the job centre very helpful.

All the best

I only work 16 hours. I don’t understand why I’m paying so much. I’ve always had help with rent and council tax but apparently it’s all changed. I get £18 pw towards my rent and I have to pay full council tax. Hence why I’m wandering if I’m better off working full time, but I can’t afford to loose my tax credit

I need to speak with someone. I’ve done a calculation online and it’s saying I’d be better off on UC. But I’m unsure really as if I’m left without any money I’d be literally f**ked. I’ve no family or anyone to borrow off.

You can voluntarily move over apparently, but you don’t get a bridge payment while they process your claim. So I’d be without any tax credit for up to 8 weeks.

If you apply for UC and are legible for it, they can transfer money straight into your account(I had £200) and they will deduct however much you have over the next 12 months.

. I think this is why you might be better having a chat to the Citizens Advice Bureau, , ( I have got to admit that I am not talking through personal experience) but I have heard they are quite good and may even help you with any form filling if you decide to go ahead

Thanks ace but I’m not sure I trust them to be honest. I can not be with out my tax credits as they pay my weekly bills and if I get in arrears I’ll be in debt, it’s a viscous circle really
