Nope, I won't be there to enjoy it so I'm not particular about music or readings etc. I'd like to cause the least anount of hassle to my loved ones who have to sort it out, so eventually I'll stipulate that I want the cheapest method of body disposal available, possibly also the location of said dispisal, but beyond that I don't care what happens.

I have. It’s about making it as easy as possible for those you love.

Both of my parents prepared for theirs which completely removed the need to have to plan and second guess someone else’s wishes when you’re grieving

But isn't it selfish to make your loved ones do what you want when you're not there ? Shouldn't it be their choice to do what they feel appropriate ?

Not yet. I probably should.

My father refused point blank to discuss it when he was terminally ill and it made us have to guess what he would prefer, my stepmum and half brother and half sister took over and I had no say at all, it was hard not to feel resentment.

So far I've only figured out what songs will be played and that there will be absolutely no religious content whatsoever.

I will be leaving very clear instructions that there must be no mention of god or prayers at all

Yes I have mine all planned, my father passed away last year and his arrangements were all made, the fact it was all written down made it easier for my mother to sort things out. I decided that I wanted things to be easier for my sons if anything happened to me, they know not to make a fuss, I’m not even bothered about a service, a cardboard coffin will do and they can put me in the family plot after that

No it’s not selfish. How can it be when the whole purpose is to take the burden off those remaining? It’s their body and their wishes. If they have organised everything and paid for everything I’m not sure why you would go against someone’s wishes. I wouldn’t.

I've talked about it with my children. I don't want it to be a sad occasion. I've told them some silly things I want to happen to make them laugh at the absurdity of the situation. I've insured myself but told them to do it as cheap as possible x

If someone has arranged their funeral then they have expressed their wishes.

A prayer doesn’t change your arrangements does it? If you’re an atheist and they gave you a catholic funeral it would be against your beliefs and wishes. I believe that would be the selfish act. It’s not about you it’s about the person that has passed.

It’s cone up with friends / family when we’ve had a drink all they know (or we chatted about) was I’m not religious so don’t bother with any of that.

I’ll come into wherever I go to “oh when the spurs go marching in” and I’ll leave to “I did it my way” and then everyone has to go have a laugh. Some have said they’ll sprinkle me at the emirates and I can haunt it

Either way I’m not there so as said before it’s for those left behind how they wish to do it, whatever is easiest for them

But when I'm dead I dont care what anyone does for my funeral. My will says my eldest daughter can do whatever she chooses with me and there is plenty of money from me to pay for it and any left over is split between my four children.

You can make it even cheaper by not getting the ashes back.

Yes we got problems in this country. If the wife dies first we're going to have to send her back to Japan for a proper funeral due to the cremation rules here. If I go first no worries she sells all here and returns to Japan. We do find the crematoriums in this country not very agreeable to Shinto-Buddhist practices.

I hope I have time to save or create a financial legacy for my boys. That's more important to me than anything else.

They know I'm happy to donate my organs and I suppose at some point I'll tell them I want my ashes scattered to the sea.

I've not long since done my mum's, I did my dad's and my grans. I don't really have it in me to think of any others right now x

None, but it is noted that I couldn’t care less what they do with me once I’m gone.

However

If I die with old lady grey hair and a set of old man style whiskers they get nowt in my will. They have to keep me pruned and looking good in my dementia, that’s the deal.
