In general as opposed to on here? No not really, I think I'm generally liked by most people who know me but I wouldn't say I was especially popular, I'm not that outgoing social butterfly type that people tend to be drawn to.

On here i would say im average.

In real life im quite popular i live in a small town and chat and friendly to everyone. I dont strive for it as im just being myself. What do i get out of it? Chatting and friends and aquantances. Whenever i leave the house always someone to chat too

I would possibly say that being disliked isn't the other side of popularity as notoriety brings its own attention, the opposite of popularity is probably anonymity.

Not especially, no. There’s been times I have been and times I most certainly haven’t. Guess it’s all context and crowd, and interactions therein.

There’s been times I’ve craved positive regard, yes. But I’ve learned to look out for myself as whatever you do, will never be good enough for those that dictate it. I’m now focused on reciprocity.

Friends. A sense of worth. Not necessarily from popularity per se but from gaining positive connections. But there are those that will pooh pooh anyone that enjoys the forum for those reasons, ach balls to them.

I think in terms of fab there's forever changing waves of who is popular, who has irked someone, who made a comment that was misconstrued.

It depends too who is around at the time, sometimes you post loads and no one really interacts with you then other times you're all over the place chatting and getting involved.

I think looking at yourself in that way is hard here, you can't tell how anyone else's experience has been to compare it to yours plus people make so many assumptions about you and your character it's impossible to know how you're coming across.

For example I get accused of attention seeking because I post a fair bit and start threads but to me I start inclusive threads and try to encourage people to get involved. In mind I'm just hanging out chatting and I hope that I come across well but to others I'm trying to hog the li_elight. You can't win.

I find people interesting in their complexity and often I find that there's a 'disconnect' between how we see ourselves and how others see us, the internet simply enhances this as I've found people 'can' display a caricature of themselves online, be it good or bad.

I find how we perceive ourselves and others to be of infinite interest and I often find myself wondering about intent and motive regarding people's interactions and the 'dance' played out in subtlety daily.

I'm finding these things of interest to me at the moment, not that many answers are forthcoming but I like to think that a spark of introspection or self awareness is a wonderful thing.

I've also asked 'important' questions and down right daft ones along the way, I also do a nice line in threads that bring people together too...

That's very true in terms of others judgement there is no winning, it's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I do agree though that even the most popular forum poster feels ignored and overlooked at times and we always evaluate our own experience in relation others through the rose tinted glasses of perception.

Things are rarely as we see and perspective is a funny thing.

The people I'm already friends with don't care if I have my boobs on show or not, but the superficial interactions drop right off if no nakedness is apparent. I've always been the type to have very few, but very close, good friends so it's not something that upsets me. I prefer to slink around on the peripheries.

I think popularity comes along with how new you are and how engaging on the forum you also are.

I probably tried to be popular 'in the beginning' to get myself in where I thought I wanted to be.

It's not a natural instinct of mine though and true selves always out. I'm more weird and grumpy on the outskirts again looking in, my spiritual home

Thing is, there are a multitude of reasons someone can be popular and the reason makes a difference to me. Am I popular because people enjoy what I have to say or because of the who I am? I'll take it.

Am I popular because I'm an easy fuck and have a reputation for opening my legs purely to gain popularity? You can keep that shit ta muchly.

It's all subjective and sometimes we can be "popular" for what we consider the wrong reasons to us.
