I am planning to do the pennine real ale trail as part of my birthday celebrations. Anyone got some good hints and tips, or know what kind of ticket we need to buy?

A few friends did it at Christmas and were disappointed with most of the pubs ESP as you get towards the end of it ( nothing to do with the ale lol ) just the pubs only seem to be open for said trail ??

I think maybe the manchester pubs and those in the middle are the better ones perhaps!?
