I've got a copy that I keep dipping in and out of. Reminds me of cycling weekly from that time with each stage getting a detailed write up

He does about 300k a week just for fun.

Four years ago he was found collapsed by a roadside in Peak District. Initially taken to local A&E but was transferred to Wythenshaw Hospital in Manchester for what became a quadruple heart bypass 4 days later

Docs said his fitness helped as his heart had only 7% blood flow at any one time but had adjusted.

His fitness also helped his recovery as he was discharged from hospital 6 days after his surgery, into local GP care.

This has been one of the best starts to Le Tour I’ve seen, with rolling stages and some decent climbs early on, it’s started to sort out the GC riders early and there hasn’t been too many flat stages, which lets face it are boring as shit. G is looking good, if he can stay at the front on 20% slopes with the pure climbers then he must be in good form.

Don't know a huge amount about the technicalities of the race, or the team dynamics, etc. That sprinter Peter Sagan looks delicious however, which is enough to catch my attention enough to follow.

For a very long time climbed a few of the iconic climbs and some of the classics routes as well not sure froome would have won this year can see the young bloods dominate in next year a so 4 or 5 amazing talents out there at a very young age

have to say i prefer the giro and the vuelta than the tour... they both tend to have more mountain stages....

I do love a good mountain stage... always wondered when they don't have an mountain ITT up alpe duez.....

that would make for an epic stage....

Interesting point you make,but I think these days the winner has to be a good all rounder not just a great climber.

Must say I do love the TTT.

Maybe there's room for a flat ITT a hilly one and a TTT.

I do think that due to the sport being cleaner than its ever been we see less individual epic break aways on the mountains it's far more tactical relying on teamwork far more than pharmaceutical enhancement.

But a mountain climb TT?? Not sure if it would happen still it would certainly make things interesting.

Frome memory they did back in the Armstrong years and the size of the crowds made the organisers say never again!!

Fair play to Movistar riding hard and eliminating Quintana was a level of tactical ineptitude the lime of which I don't think I've ever seen before. Added bonus the fact they pretty much stopped working after they'd dropped him!

Not overly, he's had some pretty good results in the mountains prior to this race. It's not like he's rode away from everyone either. He's just nibbled seconds here and there. Today was a shortish stage, I suspect he may well crack under more stern examination after a long day's ride with mountain top finishes.

You sure,a guy who's not known as a time trialist obliterated the rest of the field, kept up with and left behind some of the best climber's in the world.

However I would love him to win as he seems like a genuinely likable guy who has a great approach to racing.

I think he's clean, he's an incredible talent, the TT suited him and he was clearly on the limit yesterday. He also benefited from a combine with the 2 fdj riders. That said if he continues to hold on every day with very limited team support I'll become increasingly cynical. He's far from the first rider in tour history to ride out of his skin to hold the yellow jersey longer than expected.

To be honest I'm more cynical of the Jumbo vista. They really are unbelievable

They estimated that there were a million people on the mountain that day.

Armstrong destroyed everyone but obviously that means nothing now. No skinsuits, no helmets, no marginal gains (other than chemicals), it was brutal to watch.

I don't think INEOS are missing Froome as all that would have have happened is that you would have had Froome and Thomas being joint leader and Benal being Super Domestique....

The Biggest difference this year is that cut down of teams from 9 to 8... so teams can't control the race as much as they use to... i think it has made for much better racing

i am not cynical at all in relation to jumbo vista at all...they have always been good in TTT, plus woods and bennett have rode well in grand tours before so are perfect foils

as for JA... well the ITT wasn't your usual "flat as a pancake ITT" so that suited his punchy style..... and i think JA in a weird way has been helped by Pinot and FDJ...

now that pinot is 4th... i wonder this week is the week they all "gang up" on quickstep and make them pay for not bringing mountain help (the whole 8 man rather than 9 man teams again as they brought the sprinter for stage wins....)

the one saving grace Alaphillipe has is tomorrow is a rest day... tuesday is flat and wednesdays isn't that hilly.... so he may well have gotten his legs back by the fireworks on thursday,friday and saturday

There's footage of a spat prior to Martin trying to force Rowe off the road and Rowe's riding is disgraceful and definitely deserving of a DQ. I think the fact that JA told them to stop acting like a pair of dicks shows there was more to this than the few seconds shown yesterday.

Rowe's got previous for this sort of thing, he apologised to Valverde earlier in the tour for riding like a dick and kicked off with a spectator last year so while the jury's verdict seems harsh this wasn't an isolated incident

Well another fantastic day's racing. Personally I think they went to late and should have tried to dislodge Alaphillipe earlier that said what an absolute masterclass in how to ride a bike downhill.

There's no good being great going up if you can't go down as well!!

It looks like the UCI are trying to work out how to sort this out. At the moment they are saying no stage winner but GC times as per the last mountain they went over.

Not entirely convinced the rules allow for that. The stage was abandoned not shortened or neutralised creating a huge problem trying to compile the results. I think it's possible we'll see todays results cancelled out completely

its gets even worse...

because of the threat of landslides and extreme weather... they have cut tomorrows stage to bits...

there was a cat 1 climb and a cat 2 climb before finishing at the top of an HC climb...

they are now going to skip the 2 big climbs in the middle of the stage and just going to do the big climb at the end......

so any big strategy there was going to be tomorrow has been blown to bits... its going to basically be a 30km tear up, up the one climb!

Well that would suit Alaphillipe he's more of a short tear up the side of a mountain rather than a long alpine climb kinda guy. Also I do wonder if it's been done with the sole intention of not allowing him to be in a position to lose to much time.

Taking a shit on the move only happens if someone is ill.

When I used to race(triathlon) your body is quite amazing before the race your body seems to know that you need to get rid of everything and you tend to poo alot.

Then as soon as the horn goes off race start your bumhole clamps up.

Don't forget these guys are professional athletes and used to many hours on the bike, plus most stages are relatively short 4 or 5hours maybe 6. When I did ironman I'd be on the go for about 13hrs.

Saying that YOU do NOT want to ever go near the portaloos at an Ironman event it's like someone has thrown a grenade in the turf tank and the place is covered in shit.

Back to the tour unless they have upset tummies.

Also they tend to shy away from solid food barring energy bars and maybe jam sandwiches, do you shit at work??

Most people who I know don't and usually after my morning dump before work I don't go again until I get in from work about 12hrs later.

It's just a day at work for those guys.

It was a good race this year, best tour in a long time but the wealth of Ineos/SKY compared to all other teams isn't good for the sport on a global level.

they will just have different people aiming their seasons at different points..... so for example the same team leaders aren't going to ride the giro/tour or the tour/vuelta unless something major happens....

2 team leaders with 6 domestiques.... some of the leaders could be super domestiques in the other tours....

you can kinda see the construct if they are going to basically be a GC team with no sprinters...

i think this is going to force others to deciding if they are going to GC teams or Sprinters teams in tours, because like in the case of quickstep... you are really not going to be able to do both or your GC contender gets isolated in the mountains

Invest, buy the best be the best it won't last forever but whilst it does I'm going to keep on loving it.

Really enjoyed it again this year other than the last two days when it was a massive anticlimax. Friday's curtailed stage handed the race to Bernal and in addition turned Saturday's stage from a potential thriller into a non event. shame but c'est la vie.

Chapeau Egan not only humble but obviously intelligent and caring the little thing he did with his bro and mum was really cute.

And delivering a speech in 4 languages at 22 is impressive, there's lots of footballers out there that could learn a lesson in humility and how to win graciously.

A very fitting end to an amazing tour.

I'm not sure what the solution is but one team with a budget dwarfing all others is not sustainable.

The world tour is a farce on many levels. BMC effectivelt went last year and when one of the biggest teams cant find a replacement sponsor that's pretty shit. Katusha are rumoured to be folding this year and the likely outcome will be similar to BMC with a pro-conti team seizing the licence but the merger meaning loads of riders and staff are left unemployed. Increasing the number of teams on the world tour will only make it worse as the lack of wildcard places means pro-conti teams in Italy are already folding.

Most of the teams in the world tour are Canon fodder already meanwhile INEOS have the 3 tour winners and this year's giro winner on their books. Even Quickstep who have huge strength in depth for the one day races have to let some of their riders move on rather than just keep signing more and more winners
