My 6 year olds nickname is snowflake (long story but with our neighbours dog they are known as snowflake and the ice dog), got her a pretty long sleeved tshirt that said "snowflake" and had a snowflake that you could brush to change colour, out shopping some young woman lost her shit at me screaming about how it was offensive

I told her she needed 1 that said "may contain nuts" and walked off laughing......everyones offended by something these days

Not really. I would define it as someone who gets offended easily, looks for things to be offended by and even gets offended by proxy!

Personally I see it as an insult aimed at left wingers by right wingers, usually when left wingers are pointing out things like racism, Islamophobia, homophobia etc, it's a subtle way of bullying, but without the traditional officially recognised words being used, because the people using it know what'd happen if they used the traditional words they`d much prefer to use...

The whole snowflake thing has come about as a direct result of the political situation, initially in the states, so, I'd argue its entirely a political topic.

Don't think anyone suggested they didn't but the point GK was making is that the term "snowflake" does seem to be bandied about by the right as some kind of "proof" they've won an argument which is ridiculous.

I’m pretty much in the middle politically and look for the good on both sides.

But to me it seems the right debate/argue facts, statistics and always seem to point out what’s best for the country and offer solutions even if sometimes its unpopular.

The left mainly seems to be ,,, but ,,, but ,, urrrmm ,, but I’m offended and everything should be perfect without offering solutions or thinking of consequences then go back into the safe space

I'm quite liking this from urban dictionary cos I didn't know the Fight Club link ........

A term for someone that thinks they are unique and special, but really are not. It gained popularity after the movie "Fight Club" from the quote “You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else."

Began being used extensively as a putdown for someone, usually on the political left, who is easily offended or felt they needed a "safe space" away from the harsh realities of the world, but now has morphed into a general putdown for anyone that complains about any subject.

Comedians have a hard time performing on college campuses anymore because of all the little snowflakes running around that get offended by just about anything they say.

It's just a word, nothing to be frightened of. If you know its true meaning, which very few on here seem to, and you don't like it or are unable to use it properly - don't use it. Don't seek to ban or quash it though - that smacks too heavily of book burning and restricting freedom of speech. The irony is that the word perfectly describes those who are offended by it, but who don't really know what it means.
