I went into a mobile phone retailer today with the intention of buying a handset on payg( Samsung A70 cost £370 ). The store was one owned by the network .

I was the only customer and walked over to the three members of staff who were siting down and chatting . It would appear that they were so engrossed in their conversation that they did not even notice me. After what seemed like a few minutes one eventually caught my attention. I explained that I wanted to buy the A70 and asked could they copy all my data over for me. The member of staff advised that their wifi was poor and it would take a few hours.

It then turned out that the phone was not for sale on payg as it had only been out for two months ( this was despite the fact that it was priced with a payg price.)

I would have though that any forward looking member of staff would have apologised for this and attempted to sell me a contract phone. I have been loyal to the network concerned for 22 years .

No attempt was made to do this or even sell any alternative . It was not as if the shop was busy. I was the only customer and there were four members of staff .

It may be I had a lucky miss as I now understand you cannot charge a Sumsung A70 using a USB cable which seems odd . It still seems a great phone for the price.

Complain.

I had this when I went into the EE shop.

Rarely home so had my upgrade delivered to the store. Went to collect, and the guy never gave ete contact just spoke through his computer.

After my request he tapped a key on the keyboard and announced I was wrong, nothing had been delivered.

Odd because I had the text, showed him he was adamant nope, nothing here. So I rang EE whilst in store, they confirmed that it had been dropped off and was there.

I asked if they could speak to the guy and confirm the my phone was there, not sure what was said but the guy soon scarpered and appeared with my package.

When asked if I wanted it set up I was like "no thanks, can't be distracting you from procrastination any longer now can I?"

Complaint made, and they halved my bill for that month as an apology.

EE have the worst reputation. Since being taken over by BT they have gotten worse.

Go direct to samsung online. They do trade in also.

I have a sim only contract & buy all my handsets direct, you get better warranty and theyre cheaper offer 150 discount when trading a old one in.

You need to complain nothing will change if no-one complains about poor service.

Could contact the network directly and see if they will do you a good deal with you being with them for so long.

They sometimes have more offers as you aren't going to a shop which has overhead costs to cover and crap staff to pay

I had similar when I wanted the new iPhone. Waited in the shop only to be told they were far too busy to serve and they recommend I come back. Second visit next week, same again. It’s like they didn’t want the cash/sale.

I just used a different shop that were willing to help, let them have the commission or sales or however it works.

The other shop were so helpful it was unreal. Even went to get the exact handset from another branch (same day).

Actually I wonder if it’s driven by sales targets...

if they’ve met the target is it a way to “bank” a sale next period....

Strangely, it was an EE store that I went into as well . Some are owned by Franchises but that should not make any difference.

In a highly competitive retail market I was really surprised at the indifference shown towards a customer who had already decided to buy a product .

Ee and customer service will rarely fall in the same sentence unless the word shocking comes and joins them.

Undecided now as I did not realize you could not charge a Samsung A70 with a USB cable . I travel to various different locations and have three phones - one for work , and two for pleasure ( uk network and French network ) so compatible chargers are important . I could buy a dual sim phone but do not want to risk syncing my business and pleasure contacts

The A70 does charge with a USB cable just not a micro-usb, it has a USB-C which is becoming more common with phones and (I believe) allows for fast charging - it's just a different connector type and you can buy a converter fairly cheaply (that is no bigger than a fingernail) to convert micro-USB to USB-C

I've got USB-C on my A5 and works really well.

As for customer service in phone shops I find it's hit and miss, much like any other shop, although will always go to Carphone Warehouse who often have better deals than the network specific shops, have always been pretty good at customer service and with the new "network switch" thing that's come in are better placed to be able to help you switch to a different network if there's a better deal.

The Town by The Cross

I find shopping to be a very uncomfortable experience these days.

Staff seem to think that they are doing YOU a favour.

They HATE being interupted.

I just walk out now, stood in a new bar a few months ago and thought I'd check it out.

Basically it was semi busy but I was totally ignored, no eye contact, not a hi I'll be with you really shortly.

I normally just don't return but on this occasion I half knew the owner so I emailed him and he was mortified as he'd sunk his savings into it.

He dealt with the attitude problem and retrained one who just didn't know how to act with people and the other one disappeared as she wouldn't change.

From what I have read this looks like a lack of training. As companys fall over themselves when your in the shop.
