Apart from sex and wanking, how do you handle stress and other negative feelings?

I have lots of answers, but a surprising recent one has been writing fiction. I'm finding it therapeutic.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Take my horse out for a long hack and just have some time away from all the worries of everything. It helps for a bit anyhow.

Drive. Bake. Music. Singing along to certain songs on full volume can be cathartic.

If I'm really stressed I talk to a few people. I can Aspie vent all of my information overload at them and they know and understand why I am doing it and let me be.

I've started going for a run again. Yoga takes the edge off but I find I have all this nervous energy residue. Sweating it out of me is effective and allows my oft chaotic mind a chance to calm.

I have a bath if I need to unwind and destress, or go for a walk in the countryside if I can fit it in.

Ooh sweat is good. If I can get myself to, hitting the gym is great for stress. I'm just going to plate up the leg press and push that crap away.

I don't get stressed really, I've had jobs termed as ' a pressurised environment ' and I never felt pressured but I find the ocean very relaxing and the sun and chatting to people

Exercise, I've found taking what worries me head on and standing up to it has worked well for me, putting myself in situations I'm out of my comfort zone etc

For me, there are varying levels according to the stress I'm experiencing.

Low- take a walk, distract myself with a film

Moderate- journalling or exercise, preferably running

High- talk it out with someone who will listen with no judgement or agenda.

On a mooch

At my worst I used to get out the pens and pencils and zone out doodling and colouring, this also helped me stop drinking (alcohol) as I was so focused on the task at hand

Now it’s a mixture of music, reading or having a laugh with my kid - the best medicine

Music is probably my number one method. Have a bubblebath, drawing, watching reruns of drag race....I could go on!

I think it's important to allow yourself that distraction sometimes.

Also a handful of close friends keep me sane and let me rant and vent to them when I need to
