Are you seeking the answer to life, the universe and everything (42, I solved that for you), here for a natter, to put the world to rights, to find that certain hottie(s), to poke at people with a sharp stick for your own machiavellian ends or some other reason?

So dear forumites, what motivates and makes you tick?

I started lurking for more insight into how people used the site. I started posting because I'm an opinionated gobshite. I keep posting because I enjoy the interaction (and am an opinionated gobshite).

Because I enjoy talking to a range of people. I find people fascinating and on the fora I love seeing changing opinions, different friendship groups emerging and guessing who is meeting who. I like flirting with some people, I like the attention my posts can generate.

I also like seeing the wealth of opinions on topics. And I'm nosy.

Originally I popped on to read about peoples experiences and advice on sub/dom relationships etc.

Then I found the lounge and the rest was history. I quickly discovered a group of people who clearly had some knowledge of each other, some were scary, some were uber flattering and some, well, just normal folk doing what they do.

Diamond Joe was using the forums then I found him absolutely perplexing but in all the right ways. I couldn't work him out apart from the point that he gave no shits about certain things and I liked that about him. He intrigued me, made me laugh and made me in equal measure.

I soon worked out that it was far easier on the forums to get the measure of people than it was by PM to a degree.

The forums are a goldmine of advice, giggles, flounces, struggles, successes and things that challenge you, whether that's a picture challenge, challenging your preconceptions and thinking or just biting your tongue.

We we're on here a few months on our first profile before we started using the forums.

When I found them I was Intrigued (genuinely) reading people's experiences, their stories, fantasies and their thoughts too about their feelings.

Being active in the forums has allowed me to see that what we do is 'normal'. Whatever normal is

Also, I really like the feel of community and the fun threads that keep the forums light hearted too.

It is a great place to be most of the time.

Initially it was to find people I wanted to have sex with as I like to get the measure of someone by observing them from a distance while they fanny about on here. Then it became apparent that for someone like me, who is quickly exhausted by a lot of social contact, it's a way to make connections with people without the social hangover that comes from real life interacting. Having to plan ahead for necessary decompressing after seeing friends is a pain in the arse, quite frankly, as life doesn't stop just because I'm in need of a few hours of solitude. I no longer have to choose between enjoying friends but burning out in the process, or being lonely but full of energy. So even though I'm no longer looking for cock I hang around anyway.

That's a very good point.

I think for neurotypicals there is also a lesser degree of this approach too, the ability to micromanage our socialising and interactions can be very beneficial for mental health.

"no its just a giggle "

Does that make it any less valid?

I do sometimes find that people dismiss the forums as being 'just a laugh' because that's what it is to them. Just because others don't necessarily see it as purely lighthearted fun, doesn't make their view any less valid.

As this thread proves, there are many, many different reasons why people are here, each as valid as the other.

It seems that being nosey is quite a popular reason!

It seems that Internet forums seem to be remarkably similar in their use and the people within them fall into certain groupings. It would be interesting to see where people think they 'fit' versus where others see them but that's the subject for another thread.

In a town Fab forgot

"Are you seeking the answer to life, the universe and everything (42, I solved that for you), here for a natter, to put the world to rights, to find that certain hottie(s), to poke at people with a sharp stick for your own machiavellian ends or some other reason?

So dear forumites, what motivates and makes you tick?

Tea"

All of the above.

"To read the absolute shite that some people think is worth reading, to read threads from educationally sub normal buffoons, to laugh at peoples ability to spell simple words wrongly and have no skill reading or writing the English language but primarily to wind people up with my own nonsensical bollocks

Ah! I was wondering if an 'agitator' would pop up.

So much hate and resentment in your words, is there a reason why you enjoy spreading negativity?

I assume you read the last sentence...?

To wind people up?

My own nonsensical bollocks?

Irony? Sarcasm? Almost wit?

"

I hope that works out for you

"To forum or not to forum, this is the question!"

Indeed!

How are you getting on with those slings and arrows?

Uppendown

Interaction. Discussion both frivolous and thought provoking. Education. Humour - the laughs and giggles provided by so many forumites. The prospect/potential of meeting people by (hopefully as I gain confidence) using the forums to reveal more of my personality.

I spend most of my time on the forums trying to track down the bastard that stole my hair.

Every now and again I get close, then he disappears for months on end.

Now and again there's a social and we're both invited; unfortunately either one of us will be unable to make it and my quest to restore my head to its former glory goes by.

I'm also here for the "in" jokes.

I'll bet there's a ring of hair thieves, the bastards got some of mine too!

Come to think of it, I've often heard people complaining about the hairy ring, that must be it, no other explanation is possible.

It's a good way to do all of those things.

I know exactly whose got mine.

You could be right about the ring though. Disappointingly they seem wholly uninterested in my ear hair.

I forum to be outraged (and occasionally poke fun) at the outrageous

And to be astonished/anguished/amused by what goes through some adult's heads at times

It's generally not well received when I ask some posters to indulge my inquisitive nature regarding their posts
