Working shifts and sleep

Due to start shift work 4pm - 1am., should I try to stay up late and get up late at home to adjust?

When I do night shifts I usually go about my day as usual before first shift, then try and get an hour or so before I start work. Never usually manage it lol.

Try and get a couple of hours the day before you start if you can. Dont use red bull or anything like that because it will mess up what sleep you can get.

Dont bother staying up late the night before or any of that it just extends the run.

It is very hard not to get irritable when you are on a run so try and be nice lol

Have tried different ways.

Usually day before I'll stay up til 3/4am if I can... then go to bed and sleep until 3/4pm the day before... makes it easier to adjust. Rather try to stay awake for as close to 24 hours when I'm not at work than try to do it on my first night shift, if that makes sense.

Then you've got to look at it between nights or at the end... if you were on a day shift you'd normally go to bed at like 10pm, so if you try to go to sleep before 10am you're bound to wake up middle of the afternoon!
