Who do you admire and why?

Good evening Friends Fabbers and Forumites.

It's been a beautiful day , I hope you have all had some time in the sun . Makes one feel rather spiffing and does have a jollification effect on all .

So I was listening to the wirless and heard a story about meeting your hero's

That got me thinking , mot your hero's but who do you admire , some one who has inspired you , made you feel great , look up to , you get the gist.

It could be some one famous, a friend ,a family member or even a Forumite.

So chums share with the group.

Who do you admire , and why ?

Bethany Hamilton.

Teenage surfer who had her arm bit off by a Tiger shark. I've been following her ever since she was bit. She became and continues to be a World Class competitive athlete competing against and beating surfers with all their limbs.

Legend.

Don't know what I'd say to her though.

I admire Ernist Shacklton

He was an explorer , brave but he realised it was more important to keep his crew safe than risk them all in a endeavour, he showed leadership under extreme pressure

Walking down the only road I've ever known!

How Hawking came out with groundbreaking thinking whilst also coping with such a debilitating disease

As for Moore .. he certainly inspired my interest in astronomy whilst I was growing up ... so much so I have a large 8 inch I take out in the garden on a clear night

Make do perfectly will with a 6" Schmidt Cassegrain

I've seen a competitive cyclist similar to this. He has one arm and one leg cant remember his name right now. Quite inspirational

My oldest boy i used to live my life thru his success as an athlete made me very proud then as he got older started hanging with the wrong crowd threw his potential away but he seems to have turned a corner and matured all by himself in the last 6 month or so im astounded by how many things hes changed about himself hes had encouragement but in the end his decisions were his own to grow up and get on with things

So to my boy i say im once again proud of you

I admire my mum; she worked her arse off to be a gynae while raising a family and sacrificing her happiness to ensure ours. She volunteers for a special shelter and always goes above and beyond for everyone. She left an awful abusive relationship and was a single mum for some time but never complained. Earlier this year she lost the love of her life but has always been there for me when I've needed a good cry or some blunt kick up the arse words. She's autistic and unique and ferociously intelligent and my hero.

She never gives up on people and she's always there when you need her - if I can be half the woman she is I'll die happily.

Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes.

Got "asked to leave" the SAS for blowing up a dam that some film crew had built which was threatening to flood a village.

Too many firsts to list as an explorer, but one worthy of mention is he was the first man ever to amputate parts of his own fingers with an electrical jigsaw after they were frostbitten, because "the bones kept getting caught on things".

Mad as a box of frogs, broke my heart when I read about his wife in his biography.

He underwent a double heart bypass operation just four months before he completed seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. He asked his cardiac surgeon if he could do the runs, and the surgeon said "I don't know, no one has ever tried it after this surgery". He approved the marathons, providing his heart-rate did not exceed 130 beats per minute. Fiennes later said that he forgot to pack his heart-rate monitor, and therefore did not know how fast his heart was beating.

Sport: Diego Maradona, GOAT what a player and his attitude of us against them

Spoken word: Stephen Fry, could listen to him all day

I've really got into art and truly admire the work of Rembrandt since I sat in front of his painting 'The Night Watch" which totally blew me away.

I guess my mum is a true inspiration to me. She has been through hell in her life, survived a near fatal car crash and horrific cancer but still stays positive. her so much.

My grampy was my hero.

He fought in World War 2. He got shot twice and survived.

He was married to my nan for over 50 years and supported her through personal tragedy, illness and eventually saw the woman he had fallen in love with dissapear slowly due to Altzheimers and continued to look after her until my mum moved them in with her due to his failing health. He never once complained about things. He just got on with what needed to be done.

He was a straight talking Yorkshireman who’d not suffer fools and was our family’s rock and there’s not a day i don’t miss him (and my nan).

I said this only a few days ago on another thread, but my Nana. She is now in her 80's and still easily one of the sharpest and most intelligent people I know. She went to medical school at a time when women didn't do that, met my grandad there and got married, had my dad, then when dad was 4 years old my grandad died in a climbing accident on Ben Nevis. Nan and dad were camping nearby at the time. Despite being a single mother, with help from grandparents, she continued her studies and qualified as a Dr and went on to become a psychiatrist. When Dad was 15 she met an American junior Dr 11 years her junior and fell madly in love. 40 years and two more children later, he died of pancreatic cancer. Despite being widowed twice and and a whole heap of other crap, she's always the most positive and giving person I know. 8 years ago she was throwing herself headfirst down a hill in the snow on a home made sled. She'd still do it now if her back wasn't troublesome.

My dear old dad. He is 93, housebound and gets about with a frame. Despite being 60 he still worries about me and rings me up to make sure I'm OK, bless him. He is always jolly and still has a twinkle in his eye. He nursed my mum, who had Alzheimers, for 7 years. He is my hero

I look up to and admire Charlie my long term FWB. He's kind and funny. I had just come out of an abusive marriage when I met him. He has helped me with advice, listening to my problems and taken all the shit I have thrown at him. And 5 years we still meet for sex ect...Without him I would not have got to where I am today. He's

My son.

Bought a house at 22 and now at 25 runs his own business. He has worked since he was 13 and always been good with money. He is amazing to me, and has supported me in ways no son ever should, we have a great relationship. Could not be prouder.

My Fwb, talented musician, writes his own songs and music. Had issues with drugs and alchohol when I met him, really low ebb, nearly lost his family over it. At Christmas he was offered a record deal, is now signed to a label and making headway in to sorting out his familiarial issues, he is getting there.

I just admire his sheer will and determination, his drive and his passion. He knows his flaws and owns them. Love him to bits!

My Dad, brought up 3 kids alone after my Mum left, still worked full time, never let us down and always supported us, cannot imagine how hard life must of been for him, not many single parents in the 80's let alone single Dads.

I admire a close friend of mine.. she has overcome a shitty childhood, is a fantastic mum to her children who both have additional needs. She studied hard at UNI to get the career she wanted and she is a beautiful human being. I just think she is amazing x
