"His wife had left him too, poor guy lost everything" His wife left because he became abusive towards her, which is not a criticism of the man, but a partner can only take so much before they have to put their own sanity first. The Police Force were very quick to still call him PC Rathbone in their eulogies today. If he was still a copper they should have done more to help one of their own. RIP

"His wife had left him too, poor guy lost everything His wife left because he became abusive towards her, which is not a criticism of the man, but a partner can only take so much before they have to put their own sanity first. The Police Force were very quick to still call him PC Rathbone in their eulogies today. If he was still a copper they should have done more to help one of their own. RIP" Northumbria Police did everything to help him. He was still employed by them and a job had been created for him when he was ready to go back to work. Whilst I have every sympathy for the man and his prediciment, I did not agree with his constant moans and groans on local radio and tv about how badly done to he was, how the police did nothing for him, how the DWP did nothing for him and only gave him basic benefits .... I was very saddened by the original incident and even more saddened by the recent news that PC Rathband has eventually taken his own life. Nobody deserves that by any stretch of the imagination. But on the flipside .. How many soldiers come home from Afghanistan missing arms, legs etc and are they constanty pleading hard done to ? Generally not - they are glad to be home with their loved ones and to be alive even though their lives have been changed forever. PC Rathband had lots of help and backup but he chose to moan and gripe in public instead of accepting the help, which in my opinion lost him a lot of support. I'm really not sure what he expected his employers to do - Evacuate the police from the streets when they knew moat was about toting a shotgun ? errrrm is that not one of the reasons the police exist ? I can never remember hearing that our armed forces were removed from patrols when there may have been the risk of IUD. Sadly Rathband was the man on the street at the time and it was he who suffered ..... I'm sure I'll get any amount of negative comments over this post, but this is how I see the situation. (Mr R.) PS My deepest respect and sympathy to PC Rathband, His family, friends and aquaintences.
