so near and yet so far....

On a hot day, if some workmen were outside your home, would you offer them a cold drink?

I came back from shopping and noticed the workmen were outside my house, I was hot, so just offered them a drink and you’d of thought I’d offered them sex

Made 3 lads very happy today...

Ha ha I did wonder if they’d think it strange I was offering, but thought if the tables were turned I’d love someone to offer me a drink in this heat..

I always do. When I lived in London's West End, it was clearly something unusual but the workmen were often so attractive and deserving

It used to be a regular thing having the public offering you a drink and maybe a few biscuits to go with it when I was working outside their house. It very rarely happens now

I agree, it does seem it’s mostly northern ladies that are the most hospitable

I'm a gardener and my clients always offer me refreshments. One even cooks me lunch and gives me pink gin and tonic at the end of the day. People are generally very thoughtful in my experience.

Not at all.

If I'm going to be working outside on a hot day, I make sure I'm sufficiently supplied for my needs.

It's common sense. I expect others to be similarly organised. It is their job after all, not like they've been caught out unawares.

Plus I would imagine there's a corner shop needing the business.

I remember being at a horrific incident during the troubles in NI. It was in a hostile area and an old lady coming out with a tray of teas for us squaddies. The neighbours looked daggers at her and I just remember her telling them to shut up as we (the squaddies) were just young boys.

I’ll never forget that brave lady.
